"A government with the extreme left that depends on supporters of terrorism"

How can Bibi say "depends on supporters of terrorism" with a straight face when he tried to get the Islamist party Ra'am into HIS coalition?

Conservatives everywhere have a particularly interesting weak spot: they can't fathom why most people do not think like they do.

It is easy for Netanyahu to run as the candidate who hates all the people you hate, because, as far as I can tell, he hates everyone not named Netanyahu.

But unlike January 6, anyone who farks around by storming Israel's parliament will not live to find out.

No, he's trying to lump the opposition on the right wing together with "liberals" and "terrorists."

It's not because he's Israeli.  American conservatives see the US as an enemy to be conned and used too.

He is using GOP tactics, what happened before and what he might do in the future do not matter, only this instance of time right now. Everything else is to be ignored.

currently here in new zealand our equivalent of the republicans are screeching about critical race theory being taught in schools and "kids being forced to apologize for being white" (obviously this isn't happening, nobody wants it to happen and nobody is advocating for it to happen)

But america's worst politics have indeed been shipped out to conservative farkstains all around the world.

I find it quite telling that Netanyahu has become so despised by anyone outside of his political cult, he has basically unified enemies and achieved bipartisanship consensus among them, just for the sake of ousting Netanyahu. Sure wish we could achieve something similar in the U.S. with the House and Senate to marginalize the Trumpist charlatans and QAnus nutters.

that depends on supporters of terrorism

But enough about Bennet and his party of murder enthusiasts.

if we had no confidence votes in our constitution, you'd have coalitions and the same thing here.

not all democracies are the same. not even close.

Natalie Portmanteau: Doesn't Hamas have a couple seats in the knesset?

Eh, it's actually complicated. Hamas, no. Of course not.

Here's the party in question. (Ra'am, slated to be a coalition partner of the incoming government that will replace Bibi.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Arab_List

"It was joined in an electoral alliance by the Arab Democratic Party (which held two seats in the outgoing parliament) and the southern faction of the Islamic Movement."

The northern branch of the Islamic Movement does have ties to Hamas and is banned in Israel. The southern branch is more moderate and served as part of the founding of the party.

Ra'am, in this election, basically campaigned in the Arab sector not on ideology but on practicality -- getting more jobs, stopping the increasing crime, and so on. The party's leader said he'd be open to joining any government that achieved these goals. He talked with Bibi (but was vetoed by a far-right faction of his coalition). So, he went with the incoming coalition.

Murkanen: Since when does Israel have an "extreme left"?

This is the party I voted for in the election. (They are the furthest left out of the Zionist parties in Israel.)

Meretz is a left-wing, social-democratic and green political party in Israel. The party was formed in 1992 by the merger of Ratz, Mapam and Shinui, and was at its peak between 1992 and 1996 when it had 12 seats. It currently has six seats in the Knesset.

Meretz is a secular party emphasising a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, social justice, human rights (especially for religious, ethnic and sexual minorities), religious freedom and environmentalism.[17] The party is a member of the Progressive Alliance and Socialist International, and is an observer member of the Party of European Socialists.

Out of the small group of "non-Zionist" political parties, the one that is further left Is Hadash ("New"). If I recall correctly, it is a joint Jewish-Arab communist party.

With the lockstep nature of the GOP, I doubt enough of them would have the balls to vote "no confidence" on their own to matter. They wouldn't want to be "Liz Cheney'd".

Because just what Israel needs right now is a jokester who doesn't want you to believe that democracy works.

In 1879, German journalist Wilhelm Marr originated the term antisemitism, denoting the hatred of Jews, and also hatred of various liberal, cosmopolitan, and international political trends of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries often associated with Jews. The trends under attack included equal civil rights, constitutional democracy, free trade, socialism, finance capitalism, and pacifism.   -- US Holocaust Museum
