So if God doesn't give Utah rain it reasonable to infer God is displeased with Utah republicans.

Go here and select all the years and see how low Powell is.

The whole region is gonna feel it. His prayers won't stop climate change, aridification and over exploitation of the Colorado River system.

There's only one way to get rain and it ain't prayer!

I am in one of the sweet spots that is getting extra rain because of climate change. It is very green already in the Vista.

/Climate change does have to be addressed and some US cities will not remain habitable.

Some regions will benifit for sure.

Our food systems and power generation in the region are tied to this water crisis.

The argument about if large farms have a greater right to water than for human consumption needs to be had.

He could maybe try getting rid of the coal generating plants and going to solar and wind.  That would be a start.

We've had a wet week in New Mexico. Maybe their prayers worked, but just had bad aim.

Or.... And I'm just spit balling here... Businesses and agriculture could be forced to pay what water is actually worth and we use that to incentivize conservation from the biggest users?

2021-06-05 11:47:13 PM
It's the 21st century and people are still praying for rain. Mankind is so farked.

2021-06-05 11:49:23 PM
Well the gods didn't listen when the Mayans/Aztecs tried that and they even tried paying in currencies that gods understand (blood, pain, death)...so I doubt a bunch of sunburned pasty people praying to a jumped-up Santa Clause is going to help.

/OTOH I hope I am wrong and we get some damn rain, at least here in Tucson.

Confirmation bias in full effect...

1. Pray
2. Wait
3. Eventually it rains
4. Credit prayer and their god

Oh great noodly one,
We seek water not merely for ourselves,
No we seek it for the broth,
The great Tonkotsu pot is dry,
The equally great Phô has no moisture,
Even the pots of fettuccine are dry like a desert,
We beseech thee o' noodly one,
Let us prepare our noodles,
Let us ready our broth,
Not for ourselves alone,
No we ready them for company,
We ready them for you,
We await your noodly appendage,
Ramen.

SHUT YOUR WH*RE MOUTH!

Next thing you'll suggest is that they be subject to market forces on something like company sales or crop pricing

The governor said the current lack of water has the potential to damage crops, hurt wildlife and cause deadly wildfires.

The current governor is obviously brilliant. Brilliant because they are priming to tap into federal funds.
Why, do you ask? Because most of the indiginous population knew that the area couldn't sustain a large population... but white bread moved there regardless.
Mormon+god+tax dollars = we get to keep being assholes and collect money.
Your tax dollars working to make sure that insane cults can flourish.
God bless insanity!

It's gonna end ugly, eventually.

Yet the natives who danced* for rain and they were the savages.

*I do have to say the native version of praying is way more awesome that kneeling and mumbling about the things they want.

And that's not even getting in the hardcore sacrifices and other stuff in older native civilizations.

As somebody who lives in one of the severe drought states, I have nothing against people who come together to pray for rain.

I do, however, hold great contempt for people who only pray.

Same technique was tried in the middle of the 14th century to try to stop the Black Death. Didn't work then, won't work now. It boggles the mind that anyone could still hold that belief in the 21st century.

I think the fact there's a great big lake full of salt pretty much says what god thinks of Utah

Yep, a weekend of prayer has the same probability of a success as a weekend of farts.

When will christians finally understand that their ooga-booga spellcasting has no statistically verifiable purpose other than making them all look like weak, scared idiots.

Actually I think a weekend of farts might change the atmosphere enough to trigger some change in the weather.  So yeah...probably more successful

Hey, remember that time Utah was ranked 11th in how many rapes they like doing, and then decided they hated consent so much that they refused to explain to public school students what consent is?

God remembered that Mormons are violent rapists. Might have remembered how racist you had to be, to be a Mormon up through 1978. Enjoy your drought.

Portland Oregon where I live actually benefits from global warming. Livibility and crop yields actually go up... but we will have to take in refugees...

I vote we try to fix the problem.

Rick Perry tried that in Texas, IIRC, and half the state burned to the ground.
