The party is meeting for their annual convention on Jekyll Island this weekend, where the divide over former president Donald Trump's role in the future of the GOP was evident.

JFC, could they have picked a more stereotypical elite White place to meet?

FTA:
Later Saturday afternoon, the party passed a resolution to censure Raffensperger, saying he failed to perform his duties in "accordance with the laws of the Constitution of the State of Georgia."

The resolution says Raffensperger undermined the security of elections by allowing mass mailings of absentee ballot applications which "created opportunities for fraud and overwhelmed election offices."

Un-freaking-believable.

The dude did his job and defended the integrity of his office and the state of Georgia.  He acted honorably and without self-interest as a representative of the people charged with a sacred trust.  The GQP, his own party, the so-called Law and Order party, the "Party of Lincoln", that GQP, is censuring him because he performed his job, in accordance with the law, as validated and verified by not one but two separate audits.

See, these True Americans (tm) (AKA Real Americans (tm)) know, deep in their heart, far down at the core of their soul, that something is amiss.  They're perplexed that nobody else can feel it, but they know it and they really, really, truly and deep in their hearts, know that DT won and the rest of us just need to trust them on that because Real/True Americans don't ever lie.  Not even a little bit.

These are the people who feel not just qualified or justified, but compelled -- deeply, without relief or deviation -- to make sure that the rest of us not just understand, but accept and embrace their point of view, their values, their tenets, and their prejudices.  We must become them, because they are unmistakably and indisputably right in all aspects of life.  We may personally rejoice, that these bastions of our morals and values will, in most cases, freely and with great amplitude share of themselves, giving of advice and opinion intended, surely, only to help us improve our poor lot in life.

That must be true, because the alternative is that these assholes are so incredibly pathetic that their entire sense of self worth can be summed up in the approval, or not, of a failed business person, failed celebrity, failed politician, filed commentator, and failed human being who may very well find himself, along with his criminal family, charged under organized crime laws, and that can't be true, can it?  How pathetic must my life be when I am ready to accept such a person as my mentor and protector?

No, seriously.  How pathetid?  :)

The Republican party has, with apparently little trouble, decided that they don't care about who actually won a democratic election. They want the ability to decide who wins all future elections without the whole "democracy" part.

Anybody who has a problem with that is not welcome in the Republican party.

Because they know damn well that without cheating, they'll never hold power again, and as fascists, they only care about power.

It's gotten to the point where cheating enough to "win" is too much effort, so they're just taking the mask off completely and making a grab for a fascist takeover. And if certain Democrats keep refusing to acknowledge the threat, that takeover will succeed.

That'd be spooky.

Yeah that's it. And to pull this off they need all their people working towards that goal. They can't have outliers, so they will turn on their own. These two are in office and are facing re-election so they will get targeted a lot.

Saturday night buzzed rant.

I don't like all these articles that state that Trump falsely did something.  This implies he was wrong about something.

It's pretty clear, from simply just agreeing with the republican base that Sir. Farseface Orange Shriveled is a competent, totally not sundown crazy, man who is deliberately doing this .  He lied.  That may come as a shock to this online community.   Maybe think about getting over it.

Not sure if I'm pressing add comment now, so here we go.

saturn badger: Note is all about mail voting. They really are on an all out war in it.

This is clearly true, the irony is that mail voting took off massively due largely to the COVID pandemic and Trump's failure to get any sort of hold on it. And the further irony is that if Trump had managed COVID better (eg if per capita cases/deaths had been in line with, say, Canada) rather than just conspiratise about it he'd have likely fallen over the line at the election, he was after all not that many votes short.

My hope (and by golly I've been seriously wrong about these things before, so it's going to take more than hope) is that the Republicans are barking up the wrong tree when it comes to mail-in voting. My hope is they're placing all their eggs in that basket and between stuffing up senior citizens voting (which favours the Republicans in a lot of places) and Dems who voted by mail turning up and voting in person it doesn't make a lick of difference, and it will in fact make it harder for them to use their new anti-democratic legislation in many states to overturn unfavourable election outcomes. They won't have the Trump factor to bring out their own voters either, I think that was worth millions of votes across the US last November.

But it's still going to take big campaigns to get out the Dem vote. So get volunteering, lefty Farkers.

2021-06-05 11:12:38 PM
Well... to be fair, Raffensperger didn't do what Ken Paxton did for Texas (and I assume what Laural Lee did for Florida), in shutting down as many absentee voters as he could. For that, he should be punished.

You left out the neoconservatives. But, funny enough, in each iteration it is castoffs from the Democratic party who take over the direction of the Republicans. If the trend is to continue, I imagine it will be latinos who turn the Republicans into a Catholic Macho party.

Read the history of this place.  The Rockefellers and Vanderbilts literally had a building for their families and one next door for their party girls.  I stayed there once.  I swear the whole place was built from mahogany.  Best shrimp I've ever had in my life, at a little shiat hole on the pier.  Fresh caught that morning.
