On Wednesday, Biden offered Senate Republicans a proposal to pay for an infrastructure package that would include a number of tax increases but would not reverse anything in the 2017 tax cut bill signed into law by then-President Donald Trump.

Why the hell not?

Tax cuts for the rich? You bet. Billions for the Department of War? Bipartisan YES please. Austerity for working Americans? That's his favorite.

He has his priorities.

It's Kabuki theater. While I will never vote Republican...  It sure seems like all of the parties involved are rather happy with the status quo that personally benefits them.

I'm growing increasingly dissolusioned with the US government. Every time the Dems have enough power to actually get things accomplished, they either stall out in the name of bipartisanship or bargain down to the point that the goal is only technically accomplished. Best example is the ACA which was developed at the state level by Mitt Romney.

The Republicans are similar other than guns, abortion, and police. As far as I can tell, they don't actually care about those but it gets voters to the polls.

Everyone seems happy in their own little power/ money bubble and don't want to rock the boat.

Why yes, I had a shiatty day.

This hippie koombaya fest with the Republicans is bullshiat, and they shouldn't even have a seat at the table for anything America does in the future, because they have already demonstrated over the last 4 years, and the last 18 months especially that they aren't interested in being part of America's future. Just its downfall. The democrats are a bunch of limp noodles.

Because reversing Trump-era tax cuts is instant death to any of Biden's proposals. Biden is not a king, and he doesn't have even enough Democratic votes in the Senate.
I mean, sure, Biden could sit at the Resolute Desk with his thumb up his ass for the next 3+ years, but that's not going to win re-election.

In 24, Democrats need to heavily dump in a write-in candidate and split the vote in West Virginia. If Manchin wants to act like a Republican, then we can replace him with a real Republican. There are far better opportunities to pick up Senate seats.

And when he's twisting in the breeze, every future bill spending can cut West Virginia out of federal budgets because there are no consequences for it anymore.

Because since Manchin and Sinema won't budge on the filibuster (because they're either assholes who care more about their own personal seats than the welfare of the country as a whole, or just undercover Republican operatives), Biden has to try to attract some "moderate" Republican votes. Or at least put on the farking charade of doing so.

As long as the filibuster exists, America is farked. If Republicans get full majorities in all three branches again, Manchin and Sinema will be remembered alongside Neville Chamberlain for their role in enabling the atrocities that will follow.

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., visited a vaccination center at Capital High School in Charleston, S.C., on May 13.

Shouldn't he be, like, visiting centers in his state? Talking to his constituents instead of the red staters constituents? Whose balls is he cupping for this one? Lady G, maybe?

Someone should ask him about this. I would love to hear the answer.

2021-06-05 10:05:12 PM
Hi ho there.

As a card carrying member of the BSAB community, I'm afraid we must officially reject Manchin's goofball filibuster hesitancy. Bipartisanship can happen, but only after the Republicans are put in their place.

2021-06-05 10:07:39 PM
For the slow ones in the back, West Virginia voted overwhelmingly for Trump. They aren't going to elect a progressive Democrat. You only other option is someone who is officially in the GOP and then you lose the technical Senate majority. That would be worse.

There's no current alternative. And he's popular in his State which means he's doing his job. His job isn't to please me, or you unless you're from WV. All that said, Unless the GOP gives him something soon, he'll adapt. It will just seem like it's a glacial pace.

You'll see that both parties serve the interests of the wealthy and ignore the needs of the rest of us. The goal is to give as little as possible so the rest goes to keep the system as is. They use wedge politics to divide us so we spend more time fighting each other and less being critical of the assholes doing this to us.

Biden should have Kamala, Moscow Mitch, and Kremlin Kevin meet him in the Oval Office. There he signs - BUT DOES NOT RELEASE - a blanket pardon of EVERYONE currently in prison, in jail, or awaiting trial on bail. Have it written so that federal prisoners get out first, then state, then local, then those charged but not convicted.

We're already headed there, so speeding it up a bit won't matter. If either Yertle or Kev call Joe's bluff, release the federal prisoners.

I agree 100%. Joe Manchin being a corrupt dumbass will result in the House flipping in 22 and the Senate potentially flipping in 24. If the former happens, the Democrats need to burn Manchin to the ground. Run an official Democrat primary challenge and launch a Democratic write-in challenger to split the vote and force a loss.

Or threaten his daughter with prison time for corruption. He can play ball or she can go into general population and get her rich ass beaten up.

That implies Republicans give a shiat about anything besides getting power. Something like that would, in fact, just let the Republicans take power in the next election cycle.

That's why you can't negotiate with Republicans, too. They don't care if their constituents get farked over, they don't care if the nation as a whole suffers, and they don't care when Americans die. They care about power for its own sake, and nothing else.

You cannot negotiate with that. You can barely even threaten it, because they'll just blame any problems on the opponent. You have to fight them with the only language they understand, which means FARKING USE THE POWER THE VOTERS GAVE YOU, YOU "CENTRIST" FARKHEADS.

With the filibuster gone, it's a 51/50 Senate (since the VP would break ties).

There's also the DOJ, which SHOULD be working their asses off to arrest Trump and the collaborators with the 1/6 insurrection. Hell, add 'enforce existing anti-corruption laws', and they could have half the Congressional GQP locked up before the midterms. Or enforce section 3 of the 14th Amendment, and you could bar most of the damn party from holding office.

Republican-led states are busily passing laws saying that they can basically declare the Republican the winner no matter the actual vote count. Multiple Congressional Republicans supported, and actively helped, an attempted coup in January. The Republican party has made it no secret that the GQP intends to take absolute power as soon as possible. Drastic action is needed before they do that, because once fascists take absolute power, 'drastic' doesn't even begin to cover what's necessary to get them out.

'Centrist' Democrats are too blinded by their privilege to realize that 'civility' doesn't matter. There cannot be bipartisan negotiations when one side wants absolute power and will settle for nothing less. The GQP needs to be sidelined and removed from power using whatever methods are necessary.

He's from a red state, they aren't going to elect a leftist, as explained above.  He's trying not to piss off his constituents.  If he joins with the Democrats and makes huge policy or rules changes, or steamrolls the Republicans, it's not just a Democrat takeover, it's Man-chin giving them the power to do so.

He's not on the same team as the Democrats - he's a red state Democrat, who knows Republicans support him.  He's on his own team, just like Cinema is on her own team.

What in God's name are you rambling about?  Joe Manchin wasn't elected in West f* king Virginia to support a liberal agenda because he is not a liberal. He's a conservative Democrat. If he helps dump the filibuster and starts blindly supporting Biden, he's out in the next election.
