I'm just here to point out the obvious:  Radar is a fantastic name for a guide dog.

Only when they're working.  When they're off-duty they're normal dogs.

I was lucky enough to share a shuttle to the airport with a blind lady and her guide dog. For an hour and half that dog kept sticking his head between the seats so I would pet him. The owner kept apologizing and I'm like "It's a friendly doggo. I am perfectly happy to pet him! It is OK!"

when they have the harness on they are working and not to be bothered, petted or talked to by anyone but their owner. if the harness is off they are just a pupper and you can pet them. being a seeing eye dog is serious business. once the harness goes on they are 100% focused since a mistake could injure or kill their owner.

Yup.  Years ago, someone at my office had a service dog...and as much as I want to pet that dog, he or she had verbiage injure harness that basically said "Leave me alone.  I am working."

So I respected that boundary...but on some days after t was tough.

Are flip-flops the most practical footwear for a blind person?

I do know that. It was a long shuttle ride, he was "off duty".

Dogs are f**king awesome.
I am much, much prouder of our species for forging our alliance with the dog than I am for going to the moon, or inventing computers, or any of our other so-called "accomplishments".
With all our clever little bullshiat tricknology, the dog is the best thing we have ever done.

Nogale: Are flip-flops the most practical footwear for a blind person?

They're not the most practical footwear for anyone, unless they have no arms and use their feet as hands.
