surprisingly not about Tom Wilson.

I was like, "This is about the Habs game the other night wasn't it?"  *click*

Yup, and Scheifele only got four games out of it?  That shiatbag needs to remember the icing rule exists in most other situations because 70 km/h fights for the puck with hits like this is how people die in hockey.

Scheifele better have his head on a swivel.

2021-06-04 4:53:08 PM
Dumbass. He should be trying to block the puck there, not hit the player.

First game when those two teams face off next season, better drop his gloves the moment the whistle sounds.

Apparently, he can appeal the suspension to Bettman. Bettman should respond by adding another game to the ban.

2021-06-04 4:54:08 PM
4 games? What he doesn't realize is that the Habs are mad. He crossed a line with this hit.

They will make sure to turn this suspension into a season/series suspension by completely wiping out the Jets. 4-0.

Next season, Weber will clobber him. But he isn't seeing ice time before next season

2021-06-04 4:56:46 PM
I'd also like to add that going after farkwad's family is also crossing a line.

I see no remorse from him. But HE is the one at fault. Not his wife and kids.

He basically shot the Winnipeg Jets in the dick with his antics.

Hellebuyck had rust. But that is temporary at best.

Down Stastny, Jets' offense was already thin. Going out four games and becoming marked on the ice should he return (now a big if) does not help.

Did you see what Evans was wearing? He was asking for it!

True. His suspension weakens the Jets offence when it was already well below full strength, just as the Habs are coming off a win with serious momentum and a goalie who's playing like the second coming of Saint Patrick.

I really want to know what was going on with him all night. The Habs were playing mind games and hassling him all night but I've never seen him lose it over and over again like he did in the scrums

I would not be surprised if something happened off ice to mess with his head before the game.

I've said it half as a joke before but he really was playing like he caught a Habs player in bed with his wife an hour before face off

Once again the NHL suspends on the injury. He gets up and everyone is talking about the hit.

Glided from above the circles, its a playoff game, dude had his head down and got rocked.

sucks he got hurt but he should have seen him coming

Yes. He should have. He very much should have.

But there is no way that hit should have happened the way it did either. That was clear intent to punish for scoring, not trying to stop a goal.

Nobody should be expecting THAT.

But Evans should have expected someone to be coming to stop him (cleanly)

This (FTFY). He was not trying to stop a goal. Don't otherwise know anything about him, but fark him for that hit.

Suspension should equal the time missed by the injured player...

No pay.

2021-06-04 6:17:04 PM
If he wasn't expecting that, the NHL needs to get tougher on suspensions. He should have been expecting more.

2021-06-04 6:17:51 PM
The days of goon hockey are over.  There's no room for it anymore.  It doesn't win games, and it sure as hell doesn't make careers anymore.

The kids coming in are WAY too fast.  You can't hit what you can't catch.

On top of that, the players don't like it much, and they'll react.  This idiot is gonna have a hell of a hard time going forward no matter who he's playing against.

Oh, sure, the NHL executives love it because it means press, and to Bettman, any press is good press, but the players and coaches, largely, aren't having it.

That said, the guy REALLY should have had his head up.  Given the situation, it should be obvious a world of shiat is coming your way.  If you see it coming, you've got a shot at absorbing it.  But at the same time, you just got away with an empty netter in the playoffs, you kinda want to watch it go in.

The scuttlebutt I'm hearing, I'm not sure the Habs will get to him depending on schedule.  A LOT of players are pretty pissed all over the league.

As an old time hockey fan I really didn't see much wrong with the hit.  Shoulder to the chest and it rides up into the head.  If he hadn't slowed down he might have prevented the goal.  The concept of George Effing Parros suspending a player because he hit someone too hard is laughable.

How'd that work out?  Maybe it's way past time things changed.

Evans had his back to Scheifele until the last 250ms before he got rocked.  I'm not sure he had enough time to even register surprise that Scheifele was looking to charge him like that.  Or at all, since the game was already over anyway.

If Scheifele wasn't still skating into the hit and aiming for Evans after the goal, I'd have agreed with you.

If he had kept *both* hands on his stick he might have gotten away with a 2-minute penalty for roughing (a meaningless penalty at that point, granted), but he let go of his stick with the arm he used to drill Evans in the chin with, signalling his intent to cause injury, which is what got him the suspension.

I had for years (back in that Vancouver heyday) predicted San Jose and Washington to meet in a Stanley Cup Finals.

That's how I look at that.

He should be suspended for as long as the player he took out is not able to play PLUS the 4 he has.  And it does not matter if the Habs eliminate the Jets and go further into the playoffs.

Habs have a shot at eliminating the Jets before a game #6. OTOH, Scheifele in a congratulatory line on the losing end would be very interesting.

Over on Reddit they're planning to kill this guy's whole family tree. Addresses, names, schedules, etc. So, I'm not sure he makes it to next season either alive or still an active player.

That's all well and good.  It's still charging.  It's still a 5min (and a misconduct).  Charging doesn't have to involve leaving one's feet.  There's a clause in rule 42.1 specifically for this (and 42.4 for the match/misconduct add-on).  You can't skate across the ice specifically to forcibly check a player.  Period.  Injury or not.  Shoulder to chest or not.  It's not legal.  Just because the contact didn't fit the case of the Matt Cooke rule, doesn't make it legal.

I played back when the onus was on the puck-carrier to "keep your head up".  Hell, I played back before helmets were mandatory.  I was 6'4" 230 pounds in my playing days.  I was there to hit people.  I knocked out quite a few players and I got knocked out a quite a few times myself.  Thankfully, we (and the NHL) have learned that that type of play isn't good for the league or the players any more.  Hits can still be delivered, but there is an onus on the hitter now to control himself.  The days of Scott Stevens patrolling the blue line looking for Lindros with his head down are long over.  At the end of the day, that guy might be your teammate next season, and you both have careers and families that you want to continue seeing.

/the DoPS is a farking joke, though.  Rumor is that George Parros is just holding the position until Tom Wilson retires.
//Ok, i made up that rumor, but given the DoPS's track record, does it sound like a lie?

What would also be poetic about that is how if the Habs sweep the Jets, the suspension would carry over to the first game of next season.

Four games is too much. The hit was landed right as the puck was going into the net. Yeah yeah, freeze frame shots show the puck slightly over the line as the hit is landing but in real time it happens at the same exact time. It was charging, but the hit itself wasn't dirty. Just really hard. But also what was Scheifele supposed to do? Skate around the guy before the goal was even scored? That's not a good look either.

Dude, charging is defined in the NHL rulebook.  And this activity met the definition.

WTF are you going on about?
