My parents invaded the Capitol, and all I got was this lousy lectern.

Doesn't sound like the tourists are getting their security deposit back.

As long as it's on Warden Norton's work detail.

2021-06-04 7:25:59 AM
That seems a bit low, doesn't it?

I mean, yes, maybe the physical property damage was only $1.5 Million, but we've incurred far more expenses in terms of cleanup, extra security, etc., directly attributed to the insurrection riot. Those who participated (including those who incited it and then ran away to hide) should be paying for that.

2021-06-04 7:26:20 AM
Seems rather low.

I'm SURE the Republicans will vote AYE for fully funding the emergency budget required to repair the damage the tourists caused.

I like that idea. Just saw a header this morning about the Koch brothers fomenting the election fraud nonsense. Maybe they can levy some meaningful fines and restitution costs against the deep pockets behind the war on democracy.

The Koch brothers can just call it a pittance of a wash against some of the taxes they've avoided over the years.

2021-06-04 7:30:00 AM
Each.

2021-06-04 7:30:19 AM
Restitution is part of any verdict.

I hope these clowns' lives are ruined.

Not to contradict your point, but isn't it "the Koch brother"?  I thought one of them died.

I don't understand why each isn't charged with accessory to murder, treason, inciting a riot, weapons of mass destruction, attempted murder and threats against heads of State, assassination attempt against heads of state and more.

It's as if the government wants this to happen again.

The overthrow of our democracy isn't over yet.

Its just one cock now. The less horrible one died. The chief asshole is still alive.

Bravo subby! As a kid I got the words "tourist" and "terrorist" conflated. Was confusing because I would hear news stories about countries fighting terrorism while wanting to increase tourism, and think WTF? I also conflated "guerilla" and "gorilla", so I always pictured large apes with machine guns fighting soldiers, and thinking if they are going extinct, why are we battling them? The world was more interesting when I was 4-5.

As far as restitution goes, it only seems right. These are the people who are always worried about property damage during protests, rather than any human life toll, so they should pay for their damage rather than us through taxes.

2021-06-04 7:54:56 AM
As long as prosecutors don't sell stinger missiles to the GQP tourists and use the proceeds of the arms sale to fund the tourists in Nicaragua, negotiate away.

2021-06-04 7:56:01 AM
Good luck with that. No way you're going to argue that a few individuals should be liable for the whole of the crime and because of the botch job done by the FBI so far less than 10% of those involved have even been charged with anything.

The best chance they have is suing the organisers of the event itself who will then just stick their insurance company with the bill. Such justice.

2021-06-04 7:56:34 AM
If they follow Reagan's model, they'll negotiate with terrorists, and then give the money to drug dealers.

Some bonehead MAGA nut will crowdfund that in a few days.

I've been assured that because it failed this one time, it can never happen again.

Good. Make them felons, cancel their voting and gun rights, and bankrupt them. Ruin their lives. F*ck those traitors.

I think "Gorilla Radio" makes for a much more interesting Rage song, and I'm sticking with it.

Funny enough that came up on my running playlist this morning.

Blockin' the beltway
Move on D.C.

These lyrics gave me pause; seems we've come full circle from the late 1990s when anti-government protest was largely a left-wing phenomenon. I couldn't imagine a liberal artist putting out a song calling for a "move on DC" now. That would only come out of the Proud Boys discography.

Which raises the question...as a liberal, am I allowed to listen to Rage in good conscience now?

Not if the State seizes their assets.  Start with the gun collections, I'm sure they've got plenty between them.  That alone should fetch quite a bit.

If you want to incite a mob to violence, be the president of the United States. The First Amendment protects all of us, but it protects some a bit more than others.

Excellent, subby.

Imagine Huey Newton using similar language as Trump did before the Black Panthers stormed the capitol. Do you think for one minute the media and the punditry would be calling on Mr. Newton's First Amendment right and parsing every word to see if his speech was protected? Please.

If you take as given that the president will always be above the law, you have conceded in advance to a totalitarian system.

If you imagine that everyone might be equal under the law, possibilities come into view. It's not that "something's gonna happen" (necessarily), it's just that from this view, something COULD happen, and from COULD it's a short skip to SHOULD, from which one may launch exploratory probes into the land of WILL. Create that social climate which makes it inevitable.

Alternatively, we could treat this as a learning experience for them and charge them 1.5 million each to be funded by student loans which can't be discharged in bankruptcy... you know in addition to their prison sentence.

And make them read the Constitution too.  Then give them a test on it, charging them $1000 for each wrong answer.

They should assign a clean up cart to Virginia "Ginni" Thomas and make her clean every bathroom every day.

Then offer a bonus to one congressional staffer, the ones who had to endure this crap on 1/6, a free bathroom floor shiat every day, lottery style.

Well

To be fair

Any rioters who pay taxes already paid for every employee and all property on capital hill......

There is little to no democracy on a capital hill awash in big business lobby money.

Legislation for sale is not democracy.

Nice try though
