There's an old Married With Children episode where a bear escapes from the zoo and wanders into the city. Al and Bud are trying to track the bear down when the come upon a big pile of empty Zima bottles...

Al: "The bear was here."

Bud: "How do you know, Dad?"

Al: "Because no human could drink more than one Zima."

I saw this on the news a couple of days ago. That girl was damn lucky that she didn't get mauled or killed - you don't mess with a mama bears and her cubs.

Also, I'm not surprised to see bears in Bradbury (where the incident took place). It looks pretty built up in the video, but Bradbury is in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, adjacent to a national forest and some pretty rugged terrain.

We have tons of coyotes around the house, we like the Bobcats and desert deer better.

One of the strangest things that happened in my neighborhood during the early days of the pandemic was being woken up to sound of what I initially thought was a dog fight only to have it end with an extremely mournful coyote howl. Sure, I might see a coyote near dusk or dawn once every 5 years or so but to be woken up like that was definitely a unique experience.

Round here the coyotes have a convention across the canyon from my place at weird hours every coupla weeks,  definitely sends shivers up your spine cause we have a kitty and 2 chihuahuas . Even had a big, i mean really big mountain lion go by, caught him on video. Tourists ask me "so where's the bears? I tell em " in the dumpsters on the east end of town"...we live right where larger animals cross from the forest to the "city" and back. Lately all we see is flatlanders...

Evolution in action, people.

They're adapting to available niches.

I live out in the suburbs.  Not exactly the sticks, but not the city either.  It's a typical midwestern subdivision.  I've seen coyotes a time or two and heard them many times.  Seen a couple of foxes.  One night I was out walking my dog at around 2am.  I'm about a block from my house and a huge bear walks out from behind my next door neighbor's house and walks past me (about 20 feet away) across the street, into a field and into the woods.

This was about a year ago so everything was already weird and this just added to it.  To this day my wife doesn't believe it happened.

Hey, it's Pride Month.  Much more than Bears out and about celebrating.   The main difference between Bears and Coyotes is that a Coyote may support some guy at the gym, but the Bears like to hang there with each other.
