And I thought only good things coming out of the Netherlands came from Dutch udders.

Here at work we have seen a lot of dramatic weight loss/gain and a large number of pregnant women, so guess  they were not working when they were supposed to. But then again on my WFH weeks I didn't have a lot to do either.

The Philippines instituted a really strict lockdown and experienced a pregnancy boom significant even for a Catholic country. Six months ago some of my family and friends in the medical field were triaging to determine if a pregnant woman or a COVID patient would get a bed.

From my travels in Holland, Dutch woman are of two varieties. Those who look like fashion models and those who can wrestle a bull to the ground. Both are appealing to me.

Almost like it was selfish as shiat to get pregnant during a pandemic.

Nope. I've dated people from almost every background but I've never gone out with a Filipino woman. They're almost all insane and remind me of my mom.

Actually, in many countries, yes.  They absolutely need more babies who will grow up and support their workforce and pay for the social services needed for the aging population.

I'm not disagreeing. People are bored and birth control is frowned upon if not, in some areas, unavailable.

You do know all that money social services need is made up right? Make robots do the job. UBI for everybody. Less children, problem solved.

Every country goal should be to reduce their population by 50% within 50 years.

Despite what you want to believe, robots/software can't do most workforce related functions.  How do you pay for UBI as the finances have never worked beyond small scale pilot projects?  Do you nationalize all housing as typical UBI can't afford home purchases. The economy relies on a workforce and that requires bodies and will not change anytime soon.

Man, pretty sure we had quality time a lot less, because we were always together and took that time for granted and did our own things in separate rooms most of the time. Shrug. I wasn't really counting.

I was under the impression the theory of the UBI was it is meant to act as a basis for everyone, an income people can live on, and if they wanted to earn more they could opt to join the workforce for extra pay, to save for a house or whatever. It is unlikely we'll see a world that doesn't need any workers, however it is certain that we are going towards a world that needs far fewer workers. Do you want to just put the excess people through a woodchipper or something?

After years of the population growth being completely attributable to migration, the number of babies born in the first months of this year was higher than expected

Immigrants, at least in the US, have a higher birthrates than folks that have been here a few generations. Pretty soon your effort over the years to attract immigrants to sustain population size will pay off with the babies of immigrants.
