kdawg7736: Naughty list? I didn't know towns had such a thing.

I did know there was a town that didn't.

Starts with building a list of troubled students to single out for police harassment, so if they weren't in the track to prison before they sure are now. Funny how people end up homeless when the cops come to their jobs to order their employees fire them because they're trouble. Self-fulfilling prophecy and all.

It's an outrage and I'm going complain to the township manager about how I feel being on a list of people who make excessive complaints to the township manager.

"the list, which reportedly held 33 entries, including one resident accused of throwing a spear-like object at an occupied city truck"

Old city council:Instead of prosecuting said nutjob for however many charges throwing a spear at someone should draw let's make a list so ... So we don't have to talk to them?

New city council: Instead of ..... Let's just actually do nothing.

I live in this city and this bad people list has been a popular topic for a while. Most government officials here are whackadoos, including one rabid MAGAT who says he doesn't represent Democrats.

To be fair, in a representative democracy, while politicians *work* for everyone, they do quite literally only "represent" the people who voted for them.

I'd have to see who was on it and why before I started biatching.  Most jobs etc. I've had have had the equivalent.  In some cases they are "We're assholes and let's persecute these farkers" lists, in others they're just, "No these people are assholes, we want to minimize having a single damn thing to do with them insofar as possible."  Just some dude/chick that doesn't agree with the current admin all the time?  Then no, fark off with the hassling em.  Whoever the fool was spear chucking at city trucks?  Yeah, fark people like that, they're an active danger to anyone that has to deal with them.

/everyone has unofficial versions of that list
//often they contain both legit entries and bullshiat
///they need to be curated farking carefully with an eye toward minimizing bullshiat and maximizing, "No this person is a serious farking problem and we've exhausted our legal options for dealing with 'em so warning warning danger!"

Agreed.  I can't think of a single place that wouldn't have a list, official or not, published or not of problems walking around in flesh and bones.  Unfortunately, in this instance, it's a governmental body and the rules for private businesses are very different for the two.  A business can simply put up a sign indicating the right to refuse service to anyone for any reason.  Governments are supposed to represent all of the constituents, even the unwanted ones.  They are supposed to serve everyone.  That this bunch of yahoos was stupid enough to actually maintain a list, admit to having such a list, and maybe even publishing said list is proof that the entire body from top down, is too stupid to be in charge of anything, but especially in charge of local governance.

Having a plan for dealing with difficult people is normal; it may just be a personality conflict and subbing in another worker for the one that can't get along with the difficulty person is a solution.  It may be that the police have to remove a potentially violent person, and just about anything in between those two solutions is acceptable.  But a naughty list is ridiculous

The list just needs to be...

1. Not secret
2. Have due process (A way for how a person gets on it and off it)

There was no need to scrap it. Let people be able to know if they are it and have a means to potentially get off it. If Chucky McSpearson wants off, then perhaps he can provide proof that no police reports were filed regarding any incidences of violence from him against city workers.

I worked at a catalog sales company for years and we a way to attach notes to the accounts of "problem" customers, a "list" if you like. (People who were always demanding free shipping, abusing discounts, abusing the call center workers). I was grateful we had it because we could always transfer those people immediately to a customer service supervisor.

Yep, why I had to throw insofar as possible in there.  When done right it's not a "Destroy zeze fools!" list but rather a, "Hold on to your butt if you gotta deal with 'em, try not to unless you gotta and then don't put up with a bunch of shiat" list.

So... do it all above board.
Duh.

If a citizen is a hostile assclown, have the city employee file a report with the police and let the "sunshine" law do its job.

I have to wonder how many people on the list were "not white"
