Vince's dream guy released.

If that doesn't tell you the WWE's the Titanic at this point, nothing will.

The question here is: Was Stroman "meh" because he was "meh" or the WWE completely misfired on him?

I really haven't been so much as even casually following wrestling the last couple of years, let alone watching.  Put bluntly, there was more talent than minutes available on the flagship WWE shows when I was watching.  There was just no way they could give everyone deserving of time adequate representation.  The way they seemed to be (re-)signing talent just to keep AEW from having them couldn't have made the situation any better.

Thinking about the watching habits in my life, I watched WWF from 1986-1993, then from 97-2000, then 2010-2014.

86-93, golden era.
97-00, monday night wars, wrestling was all of a sudden cool to watch again in high school.
2010-2014, CM Punk brought me to the table.

Its not that their talent isn't great, because its just a sea of amazing athletes.   But if you don't have the right people front and center who are larger than life / have an attitude / say and do things that make me really invested, I just can't get into it.

These are some pretty surprising releases. I'm shocked that they'd release Braun Strowman, and they've spent the last month and a half heavily promoting the return of Aleister Black.

They were only dead weight because creative didn't know what to do with them.

Tommy End will fit in AEW/Impact with no problems and Lana can join her hubby and she can wrestle a bit. Riot would also walk into AEW/Impact/NWA with no problems as well.

Hell, the fact that they released Mickie James to bring back Eva Marie should have been a red flag.

Obviously they don't care about when you sell your wrestling company to someone that doesn't know a thing about wrestling because I can see this going downhill fast.

This pretty much exactly matches my watching over the years.  Crappy writing/booking and the three hour slog that is Raw turned me off.  Haven't really watched any new content since.

I expect Disney to buy the WWE within the year.

It's where all this was going. And it plays into Big Mouse's overall entertainment scheme, now that the ass kissing and jerking off on camera era is a generation removed.

At least 90 days. I think Aleister getting cut was an actual plan they came up with as punishment for Zelina making "Hey, we need a union" noises. They cut her but know no one will sign her without her hubby. So they wait, see no one is going to sign her, play at making nice, then cut Al. So now both have to wait for his 90 day "no compete" period ends. But that isn't going to slow him down as he already went on her Twitch stream to talk about things (said nothing but nice about WWE) and admitted he was already talking with "a couple of people"...

"Tommy End & Thea Trinidad are #AllElite (maybe AllNJPW too)." - maybe??? They could sign & debut at All Out. As for the rest, I really just want Ruby to pop up on BTE so she could do a "mirror" gag with Peter Avalon.

If I'm AEW I only sign Tom & Ruby to solid contracts. If Lana wants in, its at a minimum. Miro doesn't need her in his corner. Murphy can do great at ROH, Impact, NWA and maybe AEW when they have an idea how to run cruiserweights. Whatever happens, they can't show up anywhere under after All Out in September. As for Braun in AEW...I'd rather they stay away. Their crowds aren't going to be ok with him yelling and doing 1 or 2 moves.

I seriously doubt it'd be Disney. It'd be Comcast if anything.

Strowman - the guy himself was meh, but papers should be written on how they struck gold with the character then spectacularly botched it

Black - didn't they JUST rehire his wife? and where about to slow build a new program with him? Criminally misused as if they never knew what to do with him in the first place.

Lana - genuinely surprised she lasted THIS long

Ruby - actually didn't have that bad of a callup, but her injury seriously derailed whatever plans they had for her, and when she returned, they had nothing for her

Murphy - he was still working?

Always a good sign when a media conglomerate buys a wrestling organization. Lets ask AOLTimewarner about that

NBC Universal has been their primary broadcast partner for decades, and Peacock is their exclusive streaming partner in the US.

I agree but my only question  is what about Smackdown since it is on Fox ?

I am not hip to how studies/tv stations work so it could be a moot point.

NBC/Universal already owns everything except Smackdown, and if anyone will make an offer it will most likely be them for content on Peacock and occasional live shows. I can see them setting up something like happened with UFC.

They just had their most profitable year if I'm not mistaken, only breaking the record of the previous year. Say all you want about how bad the product is, but this wet dream people have that the WWE is going to fail financially is going to have to wait for a long, long time

This is (probably) all about looking as good as possible financially to whoever is going to buy them

As far as who is going to be the buyer, the smart money is on Comcast. They've had a working relationship with NBC/Universal for almost 40 years.

Eh, it's a little different. WWF/E has essentially been the "Band-Aid" brand of pro-wrestling for at least 3 decades. They're more profitable now than ever, even as ratings sink. Just think if how much they'll be worth if there's another boom

Note that I did say "if"

I figured he would've been released for those same reasons... months ago. I don't know why you repackage him, film and show a bunch of vignettes, and then insert him into an angle during a main event match on Smackdown if it was all part of a plan, though.

The minute AEW announces that Strowman is "all elite" their fans will buy in to him completely. If he proceeds to stink it up in the ring (which I don't think he would, he's not that bad) they'll still stand behind the move.

I want Strowman in New Japan. They need a new Monster Gaijin, like Terry Gordy, Stan Hansen, Big Van Vader, even Bork Laser. And Braun would be perfect in that role. A couple years there would be great for both the company and the man, as it would help teach him a lot of much needed humility (being the stranger in a strange land) as well as helping to build his move set.
Hell, even Hulk Hogan, believe it or not, used a much more extensive move set when he wrestled in Japan. The difference between his Japanese presentation and American was staggering.

I could see that. With them losing KES as a tag team, they really only have Cobb as a big "monster" type wrestler. Braun would at least give them someone who would look like a proper fit against him once in a while.
