You don't understand MAGAs and their way with narratives, Subby.  Can't be inconvenienced by facts if you just act like they don't exist.  Or you make sure your narrative only ever runs parallel to reality - never touching it.

2021-06-02 2:34:07 PM
Cruise lines aren't NASCAR.  They have non-MAGAts in their customer base and need them to come back.  They will have to find a way to enforce some kind of vaccine mandate in order to stay in business.

2021-06-02 5:36:54 PM
I'd specifically avoid any cruise line that catered to MAGAts in any form, not just over vaccines.  They're just awful people to be around when I'm trying to relax.

/so what I'm saying is I avoid most cruise lines

And here with a headline like that, I thought TFA would have had something to do with DeSantis and Matt Gaetz.

2021-06-02 6:38:11 PM
I'd prefer screening for whatever causes Diarrhea Boat syndrome.

Fortunately it's not up to him and never has been.

Ron DeSantis is canceling vacations!
Why does he hate hospitality?

"A minor problemo for Ron DeSantis' narrative"

Yeah, he's the sort who'll take information running contrary to his narrative very seriously.

2021-06-02 6:46:23 PM
Conservatives chose the dumbest farking things to make the fronts for their culture wars. It must be really hard, pretending to be oppressed without actually acknowledging any actual oppression, so they keep coming up with dumbass shiat like "they won't let me celebrate Christmas enough," or "I have to immunize myself from deadly diseases!"

2021-06-02 6:47:44 PM
I bet neighboring coastal states would be happy to bring in the revenue he is turning away.

2021-06-02 6:47:56 PM
Given the track record of cruise ships and infection transmission I would be hard pressed to go on a cruise even with a vaccine mandate,

2021-06-02 6:49:09 PM
Also, low key, I am hoping for Ron to ruin the cruise industry with his misguided culture war. F**k the cruise industry.

2021-06-02 6:49:31 PM
Anyone who's taken more than one cruise knows those ships are floating petrie dishes. You want to get me back on a ship? Show me the vax paperwork! I don't want your stupid, unvaxxed ass sicking up my cruise.

BONUS: I won't have to hear all your MAGA bellyaching at the bar. He LOST!!! He Lies! Get over it.

I went on one cruise during my adult life. The buffet was canceled, and there was a quarantine on my hallway. Only folks head to toe in hazmat suits were allowed in and out of the quarantined cabin. Still I saw a lady sneeze in her hands then push the elevator button.

Better than Matt Gaetz's minor problem, amiright?

This is what I don't understand that guys like DaDumDum don't understand:  most people want to be safe, and won't spend money on a vacation that isn't  -- and that the corporations who run these cruise ships, restaurant chains, amusement parks, retail chains also know this.

Ideology is of no interest to anyone not in the death cult.

The CDC has laid out two paths to restarting cruises:

1. No vaccination requirements, but masks and repeated testing are required, and before any ship can sail it must go on "test cruises" with fake passengers to test out the distancing protocols.

2. Minimum 95% passenger and 98% crew vaccination, and they can bypass all that and sail.

DeSantis has sued saying that #2 is unfair to the cruise lines and should be voided. The cruise lines, who have surveyed their passengers, largely WANT #2, because the passengers want a vaccinated ship, and not one line joined his suit. You'd think he'd find some small conservative-owned line to join him. Not a one.

It's hard to argue in court that cruise lines are wholly against something when they are all literally on the opposite side of the suit from you.

But DeSantis has hitched himself to this "No vaccine!" wagon and he will do it even as some cruise lines start making plans to sail their $8 billion industry from other nearby states if they have to.

"Okay, Florida law prohibits us from requiring a vaccine mandate. Anyone without a vaccine will be quartered on decks C-F..."
(two hours later)
"We will shortly be in international waters, whereupon anyone quartered on decks C-F will be forcibly put into lifeboats and left to find their way back to shore. We'll alert the US Coast Guard about a refugee fleet."

Get the largest cruise ship available, advertise a no vaxx cruise for 50% off, Super MAGA with special appearances by Q folks.

Send it into the Atlantic and sink the farking thing.

Do this as many times as needed until people stop signing up for the cruise.

2021-06-02 6:57:54 PM
Cruise lines are one of the least regulated tourist industries in the world.

Still more regulated than Florida.

2021-06-02 6:59:55 PM
Who the f*ck would go on a cruise knowing that there is some disease riddled magat who would lie about their vaccination and kill everyone on the ship?  All trump worshipers are plague carriers.

2021-06-02 7:00:40 PM
All it takes is one family member putting their foot down and no family cruise.

2021-06-02 7:03:27 PM
If your idea of seeing the world is to sign up for a floating all-you-can-eat buffet with shiate food and third rate entertainment while roasting in a Petri dish of disease and tragic fashion sense, you're probably already a Republican.

Marketing isn't democracy: Mandate vaccination on half the boats, tiny American flags for the other half.

If you want to get on a floating petri dish with no protection, be my guest.

Reality is a minor problemo for their points of view, in that they reject it and insert their own. Just a minor problem though, they've gotten very good at the mental gymnastics.

You think Disney is not going to require some proof of vaccination? It's cute that descant is thinks he has any real power on Florida.

I, for one, was expecting this thread to be about a dead girl or live boy.

DeathSantis has been working on a carve-out for cruise liners; it's working name is the "OhShiatWeNeedThatRevenueSoMuch" bill.

Norwegian is fine. It's still a run of the mill indentured servitude line, but since dining is less structured you can generally avoid people you don't want to be around just because you booked the same vacation.

Persnickety: Cruise lines aren't NASCAR.  They have non-MAGAts in their customer base and need them to come back.  They will have to find a way to enforce some kind of vaccine mandate in order to stay in business.

The majority of cruise line customers have always been white trash Trumpers.

With all the fake vaccine cards being touted, I wouldn't even trust the cruises now. Imagine being on the first day of a multiple day cruise and you're sitting there at the pool and some covidiot leans over and says, "Yeah, I got on with my fake vaccine card. Covid is a hoax."

Roughly another third (31%) said the pandemic had made them concerned but they would go on cruises anyway.

Well yeah, I'm concerned, but it's not as if cruise ships were floating petri dishes before the pandemic.

I'd put on a good coughing spell, get closer, and say, me too...

if you have been vaccinated, the unvaccinated pose miniscule threat to you

if you are at high risk for complications if you do catch covid, even if you are vaccinated, maybe you should consider if a packed cruise ship is should really not be in your immediate future

The law says a business can't require vaccine documentation.

The simple solution - increase every cruise fare by $20,000 but offer any passenger who chooses to provide vaccine documentation an $20,000 discount.

I took my first (possibly last for non-health related reasons) cruise in January 2020. There was so much attention placed on hand washing and sanitizer, that I was afraid to sneeze or be seen sniffling sometimes.

He's not banning cruises from requiring vaccines because he thinks it's best for Florida. He's not acting as a governor there. He's taking a culture war issue that American conservatives care about, and is dialing it up to 11.

He's running for president in 2024. Or at least is setting himself up to. He's going to run as the guy that handled the pandemic like a true conservative.

Never understood the draw of cruises. I was roped into doing one with my in-laws. I understand it less now it wasn't that fun. I would rather travel to one country at a time and explore.
