FTFA: The new logo for the proposed Warner Bros. Discovery includes the famous line "The stuff that dreams are made of" from the "Maltese Falcon,"

Has questions:

Not crazy about it (it's extruded a little too far) but they properly kerned the W and A... that alone tells me that a professional worked on this. But don't let that stop you from dunking on it, Unemployed Graphic Design Experts Who Have Never Made Anything of Consequence!

Don't know why they went with that design when there are so many qualified freelancers available.

When I was very young, I thought maltese was some kind of substance to make bird statues out of.

FFS, this is a stopgap until they just go back to the original WB shield. And probably drop the Discovery name off the end (if they're smart). (Zany chaos gremlins extra).

Me too! I thought it was akin to marble or some such. Glad to finally agree with someone around here (on the important stuff!).

Put the WB inside a stylized D, you get all three letters plus hearken back to the old WB shield logo.

It looks like it's about to begin the start credits for another Mask movie.

That said in reality, this whole process is probably going to take a couple of years to sort out all of the details and this is just a placeholder announcing what the new name of the company is going to be and they'll come up with a "better" design down the road when more important things are done and they're ready to start rebranding.

My bet is still on something lame like the TimeWarner logo was as is the case with a lot of multi-billion dollar conglomerates.

Eh, you don't have to be a graphic designer to determine it's bad just like you don't have to be a major league baseball player to determine a particular player isn't very good.  Some things are just obvious on sight.  This logo is kind of bad.  The kerning is probably just dumb luck since the designer was likely working from a corporate logo sheet.  The bad outer glow just puts it over the top.

I feel like the logo is right from a Superman movie opening credits scroll in the 80s.

Graphic design is the NFL.

A thing lot of people think they understand because they did it in high school. Poorly. Very poorly.

My thought exactly. Which makes sense for their brand and history.

I'm apparently in a pedantic mood today, but the design is straight from the Warner Brothers extruded gold logo in front of blue sky design.  The old Superman credits also used an extruded text effect, but was wildly different looking.

It's compelling enough to get you to sit there and wait for the real one to show up. But it never does.

This is total shiat. And the designer is only minimally responsible if at all.

I wonder if they're bringing back geocities era 3d text in support of that shiat Space Jam sequel?

I love it.  They should go with it.
