that in Delaware county it's perfectly reasonable to cover up one murder with two attempted murders and four counts of perjury?

I find it odd that anyone would think that people would have curiosity about people from Delco.  It is an average suburb of a reasonably large city.

Because it was not a Documentary.

Too funny. I yelled the same thing at the TV when I saw the Bronco. That thing would be worth bank.

Being from Chicago, I assume it's about city government.

Because we've had Mare Daley, Mare Lightfoot, etc.

My wife, who is not much of a car person, noticed that too.

Still like the series.

I'm from Delco and I'm 4 episodes in. It gets a lot right. Even spotted my childhood church last night. <shudder> Accents are the best I've heard done, people who complain have to remember that around here even siblings can have different accents depending on who their friends were growing up and who went to Catholic/public school. It captures the despair pretty well too. Only huge omissions are that there's way less smoking and casual racism than you'd encounter in delco. People there will say unprompted racist things even to a group of white strangers. Really, that happens in Philly a lot too.

Yeah, you kind of are. The article's description of Delco and its ills are accurate, but where exactly does any of it have a place in a 7 episode miniseries on solving a murder?  That's not what the show was about.

LOL, I figured Winslet must have quit smoking and was only willing to vape. Then again, I'm sure vapes are 100x easier continuity wise.

go south to Dundalk and the Baldimore suburbs and it becomes worder hon?

CSB:   Had an appointment with a new doc a few years ago and she turned out to be my next door neighbor and best friend in the town I grew up in who moved away when I was 8.   I didn't recognize her until she asked me about my last name (unusual spelling of a common one) and if I had once lived at....my old home address.

Part fo the reason was of course her last name had changed, but much more importantly, she and her mom had the THICKEST Dundalk/Baltimore accent back then (John Waters would have wept for the purity of it)    and she had no trace of it as an adult....not even I hint.   I was kinda sad honestly

Impressive...I was up there a couple times a year over the past 15 years (parents lived west of the city, brother still lives up in Towson/Parkville) and the whole area had so many transplants, for years I thought it was completely devoid of any real accents or regional culture -- compared to, say, a lot of the Deep South or a lot of New England outside of the cities.

But yeah, it's definitely there if you look around...and driving an hour or so west got me right into the unintelligible WV/KY hill country accents. That was the quickest, shortest accent shift of anywhere I've traveled in the US. Almost like England where the accents change in almost every town.

You want to hear an accent that's really out there (but hurry the Island is sinking)?  Try  Tangiers Island, MD.   Tom Hardy's accent in The Revanant is pretty close, and according to scholars it sounds a lot like what Shakespeare's own account would have sounded like (16th century Cornish)

Cool -- I've heard there are quite a few spots along the Chesapeake that have pockets of really old accents, a lot like the outer islands of southern Louisiana with their French patois. It's amazing that these still exist when most of us live in a very homogenized culture thanks to widespread media and generally good, standardized education systems.

The Slate article is basically, "Well, in the real world, they suck because they are Republicans, and the show sucks because they don't mention they are Republicans."

Well, also in the real world, unless a TV or movie is very specifically political, the writers of the property tend to avoid the topic as much as possible, because if they mention it, they inevitable take a side, and then piss off half their audience.

It's absurd to disparage a show for not focusing on the things you felt it should have focused on. Make your own show about those things, then.

I'm not from PA but I lived there for several years. I'm also from a small town in the northeast. Many of these characters felt just like real people I met and knew.

Honestly, probably the most realistic thing a out the show was [spoilers] that a cop f*cking planted drugs on someone and faced essentially no consequences for it.

And San Antonio, Texas doesn't look like Pleasanton, Texas.
One is an actual city of a million people. The other is pastures and ranches.

We watch tons of British cop shows. The lesser criminals who the cops uncover in their investigations almost never go to jail.
