This is why I won't buy games that I can't control in their entirety. GoG at least gives me everything I need to install and play the games I buy. I won't play MMOs unless their servers are distributed beyond the publishing entity and I won't buy from platforms with that authentication for entirely offline use.

Which basically means the only games I play are from GoG or direct downloads from Humble Bundle.

Not everything ever produced is worthy of preservation.

Have Carbon on my Gamecube so that part is good for me. Still need to find a decently priced gamecube version of most wanted....and yes I know exactly the chances of that one...

Klivian: Just reboot the Underground series.

The Underground games are the only NFS games I really got into.  The soundtrack license expired right? And that's why they aren't on gog/steam?

If they reboot the series, or at least remaster it, I may even pay close to full price.

/If EA is involved in any way, shape, or form, you'd need to drop $80 on loot boxes to get out of the starting car, so never paying full price.

Same. Ahh the days when when R* made stuff other than GTA and RDR.

Does Humble Bundle have direct downloads?  I'll I've had were steam codes.  Of course any pen and paper RPG games were PDF downloads, so they count.

Last I checked, Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed didn't work past XP (and needed a patch for that).  Since wine is working so well on other stuff (mainly Dungeons and Dragons Online), I'll have to see if it can do that (or NFS III).

Can't say I cared for any later NFS game (I don't think I even bothered with NFS2, which seemed to have even more mods than 3 through PU).

Under your account settings, hit library.  The games list download methods, either bittorrent or direct, and sometimes separate links for 32 or 64 bit versions.  It's found above where your steam key is listed.

The thing I appreciated about Rockstar is they used their side projects to enhance GTA. Midnight Club worked on driving, State of Emergency did crowd physics, Bully improved the crappy hand to hand combat. All of that manifested in the following iterations of Grand Theft Auto.

hey all Multiplayer games that require a dedicated server to run, for any reason at all, even if just for "official stat" capture ranking crap, that is an ongoing in perpetuity business cost to be paying out.

So anyone buying any multiplayer game, that they can't run their own personal server for, is a time linted use game that will only be played for as long as the business can earn enough profits paying for the servers.

If you want a game you can assume to play wherever you want, more or less indefinitely, then you MUST be able to run your own personal game server on your own dime. If you rely solely on the server service provide by the game company, then you know full well this is time limited to , as long as they find it profitable, and no longer.

Don't be stupid and get caught complaining that exactly what is entierly 100% predictable, is now happening.

On your dime, or only as long as the provider finds it profitable to bother providing it you.
That is how ti works and you are just an asshole or an ignorant kid to act otherwise.

Is EA removing them from accounts, or will you just not be able to buy them anymore?

/EA Sports shuts down multiplayer after each new release anyways

FFS, just release a dedicated server for retired games and let people host their own if they want.
Why is that so hard?

I know I'm like one of the 3 people that actually enjoyed Battleborn and I completely missed the news about it being retired, but I was really pissed to reinstall it recently only to be given a message along the lines of "Thanks for spending your money but all good things etc..."

fark you, release the DS you cheap pr!cks.

/rant over
