Jenkins said a man at the home believed his house and family were under attack so he returned fire with an actual firearm, striking one of the juveniles.

Do paintball rifles sound like real firearms? I'll just give the guy an early pass on thinking those kids looked like real killers out to kill him. I'm sure that will be addressed.

I'm not automatically giving the guy a pass here, but the guns often look real, and they shoot rapidly. The discharge doesn't sound like a shot, but the sound of the paintballs on the door, siding and windows might mimic that.
I've seen videos of assholes randomly shooting pedestrians with paintball guns. In some places, I'd expect return fire from real firearms.

The way I'm reading the article is that the ten-year-old who got shot was just a neighborhood kid playing, not one of the paintball shooters.   Florida man just starts blasting away indiscriminately

You're reading it differently from everyone else because there's no reason for being in the shooting unless you're part of the shooting.

You're reading it differently from everyone else because there's no reason for being in the shooting unless you're part of the shooting.

According to Opa-locka police spokesperson Nikeya Jenkins, multiple people got out of a vehicle in front of the home, where children were playing in the yard, and began shooting at it with "rifle paint guns."

The children appear to have been playing in the yard before the vehicle arrived with the paintball posse.   Caught in the crossfire.

We got "caught in the crossfire" apologist over here. Now I'm going to misquote someone about cicadas and parakeets over here.

But, also, the very first sentence seems to claim the "victim" was one of the paintball gun shooters.

That paint ball attack was ended.
The homeowner was righteously victorious.

Opa Locka Hialeah is the place to go it's more than a market it's a great big show.

Selling drugs to the masses and illegal tattoo parlors for your asses

Sell your blood around the corner trap house fabulous like a pub crawl.

Driving through Opa-locka one day, to go and pick up my stripper girlfriend and take her b**** ass to work. I passed three separate crime scenes two murders and one was a drug bust .  All non-related. That is a bad neighborhood.

they state the victim was taken away in the getaway car... he was almost certainly part of the offending crew... as a small child he is a victim... but of child endangerment... not a "crossfire" situation, a tragic case of child endangerment...

How "Florida" can a story get?
Is there no theoretical limit to the Floridaness of a series of events?

Neither pink flamingos, alligators nor Karens were mentioned in TFA, so obviously it could have been more Florida.

He stood his ground
That 10 year old could have had a paint grenade.
It's better an innocent child be shot than risk incorrectly removing a weapon guaranteed by your second amendment from the hands of a responsible owner
That would be some kind of oppression and we definitely can't have that

The article also says the getaway car left with the gunshot victim in it. So either they're good Samaritans after shooting a house with paint balls, or the kid was pet of their group and they chose not to leave him behind. Which seems more likely?

You may lay claim to alligators and flamingos, but our California Karens are every bit the equal of the Florida varieties, and contain more juice.

If the drive was an adult, I'm not sure that he shouldn't get the death penalty for child endangerment (especially if the kid dies).  Just imagine his thought process: I'll bring a bunch of kids to attack Florida Man's house with weapons that look remarkably like guns, all the while the kids he's caring for are playing outside...

Did they have the wrong address?  Why would you show up at someone's house (especially with the kids outside) and open fire?  Florida Man could return fire even in relatively sane Castle Law states (which don't have laws designed to force both sides to escalate or die), but this is Florida, where the answer for everything is to open fire.

What comments are you reading? I'm getting the vibe from Farkers that it's okay to shoot .68 cal. projectiles at children with no consequence. And the guy defending his children is the bad guy.

Considering the demographics of Opa-locka odds are the man was black too, but that wouldn't make your theory wrong.

If I see a car pull up in front of my home, then a bunch of people jump out and start shooting at it while my kids are playing in the front yard, I don't care what it SOUNDS like I'm gonna shoot back - and I don't own a paintball gun.

This is why.

Someone clearly didn't get the message about, stranger danger.

the true message of stranger danger:
Are you really sure they aren't crazy?
never can be really.
Do you wanna put that to the test with your own life?
Sure.
just means you're either crazy too, or just young enough to be dumb enough to not know better.

You never really wanna be the one to initiate the test to find out if you're the crazier or dumber one.

This is a difficult concept for a lot of folks to understand, but there is a difference between "deserve" and "responsible."

Get into a fight with the cops and threaten them? No, you don't "deserve" to get shot, but you are totally responsible for making a series of choices that resulted in the circumstances where the police felt the need to shoot you.

This kid didn't deserve to get shot, but he (well... his parents) are responsiblefor making choices that built the conditions in which he was shot.
