For a supposedly free country, this sh*t makes me sick to my stomach. Hero fetishes and nationalism are not healthy. It allows politicians to engage in stupid wars and if you question those wars they can say "WHY DO YOU HATE OUR HEROES?!?!" it works every time.

It's a sporting event. Have a beer and some nachos. Blast some AC/DC. Leave the nationalistic shiat for banana republics.

Every time they show the anthem I mute my TV and play the 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' theme from my phone. It eerily times out exactly the same. Try it!

I hope they play the entire anthem, especially the 3rd and 4th verses.

AND maybe the unofficial fifth verse wrote by Oliver Wendell Holmes, written during the Civil War, which references the traitors that tried to secede from the United States.

I think there should be a 'truth in legislation' rule whereby lawmakers proposing this crap have to say, "I'm pandering to you. I have so little regard for your intelligence that I believe my constituents will mistake this shiat for patriotism."

This law came about because Mark Cuban didn't play the anthem at 10 home games in Dallas.  The NBA then required all teams to play it so there was no longer anything to fix, but the Texas legislature wasn't going to miss the opportunity to score some cheap political pandering points.

A few months ago, Mark Cuban said that they would no longer play the song at Maverick games.  That caused your standard conservative outrage which led to this.
