It was the whole final season that was awful, not just the season finale.  Nobody blames the season finale of Scrubs because the whole final season shouldn't have existed.

The difficulty with science fiction and fantasy is that it always will not quite meet fans vivid imaginations.

No I don't think GoT was that terrible.

Worst I would say is Star Trek Voyager.

The final season wasn't that bad. The biggest problem is they crammed two seasons of plot into one shortened season after spending all the previous seasons moving the plot along at a much slower pace.

The Seinfeld finale sucked. The idea of the plot was fine, but the constant stream of guest characters made it feel like a clip show, which was made worse by the fact that an actual clip show aired immediately before it.

I disagree.

Because the Enterprise finale was exponentially worse.

I mean, the whole episode was one of Riker's rare holodeck simulations that didn't result in him deep dicking all the holes.

So I recently rewatched the entire series for the first time since it ended. And it's obvious when the show runs out of source material. That's when the real dip in quality happens. That's not to say there aren't any good episodes in later seasons. I enjoy the episode in the final season when they're all just sitting around in Winterfell talking shiat, waiting for the Night King and his army.

But, yeah, the show certainly just petered out.

I don't think Battlestar Galactica stuck the landing on the last episode, either.

Not as bad as Game of Thrones or enterprise, but not nearly as good as most of the shows run.  The TV writers strike really hurt them. That and they wrote themselves into a corner with their choices on the final five cylons.

Sons of Anarchy ended pretty spectacularly awfully.

Dan and Dave just wanted to be done with it but they also couldn't let any one else take the helm so they picked driving it into the dirt

I recently rewatched GOT for the eighth time. The last season was very good. The denouement in the last half of the last episode was meh, but that doesn't negate the other 5.5 episodes. What even was Season Eight? It was what George RR Martin said 20 years ago: a commentary about the insanity of forever wars, and how conquerors make miserable rulers. It ended with boring people running the countries while the warriors died or scattered to the winds.

The Long Night (vs the army of the dead) was epic, and it gets more complex every time I watch it. All you have to do is turn up the brightness. It's awesome.

The Bells (the King's Landing cluster fark) was a masterpiece of filmmaking. Horrible shiat show from beginning to end, with the über villain doing exactly what people spent six seasons trying to tell them not to do.

And everyone knew that Jon Snow would kill the Night King, which is why they had him screaming impotently at a dragon while someone else killed NK. And that person had been preparing themself to kill the Night King in a (retroactively obvious) straight line since the middle of season 1.

Jon Snow didn't prepare to fight the NK; he always fought with honor and lost. Know who learned how to actually kill people?

I don't think GOT was that bad at the end.

All of the other seasons were so great, people's expectations were so high for the ending.
The entire series was pretty much over when the white walkers were defeated anyway.

I never watched Seinfeld finale.  Maybe cuz I didn't watch a the show. Jerry's voice is was like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Couldn't stand it.

Quantum Leap, Enterprise, Supernatural were probably the the worst on my list.

Scrubs I watched 2 episodes of the last season and gave up.
The finale of season 8 should have been the end. That was a good ending.
I kind of ignore season 9 all together.
But if Lecy Goranson would have just slipped in for just 1 scene in the ending instead of Sarah Chalke, I would have laughed hysterically.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was by far the worst.

The whole "God Did Everything" bit was not only stupid in its own right, but it retroactively ruined the entirety of the show that went before it, as it laid bare that the characters had absolutely no agency or freewill of their own and never did.  Every action was decided for them by a higher power, so we might as well have been watching a puppet show.

Yep.  The GRRM is a takedown of Harsh Reality crushing fantasy tropes.  Nobody had plot invincibility.  Deaths were abrupt and ugly.

Then the DD years turn into the comic relief sidekick inexplicably surviving getting dogpiled by a dozen wights, all of the trapped fan-,favorite characters getting a fire-breathing deus ex machina, and a ten-year-old girl with a crushed spine killing a giant.

I should add: Season 7 of GoT was the worst season. A show built on no major character* being safe, and Jamie survives sinking into the river when he clearly should have drowned. Plus, the amazing travel speeds needed to do the rescue on the ice.

*Except Arya and Tyrion, per Martin's wife.

It wasn't even the way it was presented that caused the backlash to be so overwhelming.

The majority of haters were and are pissed that their waifu went complete psycho even though that turn had been telegraphed since the first season. The rest were just regular internet hate-everythings jumping on the bandwagon.

I love the show, don't get me wrong, but as someone said, the finale was basically a clip show.

And rewatching reruns remind me there were much more despicable things they did in earlier seasons that went ignored in the finale.

M*A*S*H was the best finale.

One of my biggest gripes with Game of Thrones was Arya's list which we had been hearing about every season but then it was just tossed aside like "meh, yeah, I guess I won't kill all these people (shrug)"

I think some of the problems with GoT were the mommies who named their precious daughters after Dany, only to have her go nuts, kill a bunch of people and get killed herself. So she's not the heroine they thought she was. Plus she left behind one seriously pissed-off dragon.

It was allegorical. Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer were made to face judgement for their lifetime of low-key shiatty and morally grey behavior.

She'll get resurrected by a Red Priest/ess. There's a pretty strong fan theory that the Lord of Light and most magic in GoT draws power from living dragons.

She'll still be insane, though. But probably just be all Dragon Queen in the ruins.
