Wow that contract is over, huh. I remember it was a laugher. 10 years, quarter billion for a 30 year old.

As a Dodgers fan I'm not thrilled about it, but since the Angels are paying the bulk of his contract, I guess I can't complain too much.

There is only one LA team. There's a California team with a ridiculous name, but they are in a different city.

As an impassionate defender of sportsball, I am outraged that this sprotsball person will be playing for another sprotsball team.  This undermines the inherent integrity of whereever you were born being the sportsball team you passionately defend for no apparent reason.

Maybe don't venture into the sports tab if you don't like sports?  Also, anyone who uses the term "sportsball" is an insufferable prick.

I can't believe I lived to the end of this contract.

He's gonna get pestered constantly by most of that dugout trying to pick his brain. No clue if he wants to be a glorified hitting coach, but that's basically what he is on that team.

The Dodgers get to market a future Hall-of-Famer who might have a handful of HRs left in the tank, and they get to  do some weapons-grade trolling of the Angels.

This year, the Angels pay Pujols $29,567,553 (plus another $10M next year for "personal service").

The Dodgers pay Pujols $432,447.

Because he wasn't claimed off waivers, he only needs to be paid a prorated veteran minimum.

There's very little downside.

But unless he shows something good, this is his last hurrah.

Actually, not yet. The Angels DFA'd and later released him, but they still owe him for the remainder of this season, minus the pittance he'll get from the Dodgers.

But anyway, as bad as the contract was known to be at the time, I don't think anyone could have imagined how truly disastrous it would be. I would have pegged him for maybe four or five years of elite play, followed by a graceful decline and perhaps a couple of bad years at the end (which is the price you pay for surplus value in the early years). Instead, he declined to roughly league-average performance almost immediately and went further downhill from there, performing at replacement level or below for about six or seven years now.

This is the only explanation that makes any sense to me. More than half of the position players on the Dodgers' roster are all-star caliber players, and the rest are interesting and versatile role players. Pujols does not upgrade a thing; he's their worst player and it's not close. He isn't worth a major league contract. There must be at least five players on the current 40-man roster who are in AAA and can contribute more than he can.

I became a raiders fan when the rams moved to Anaheim and had the gall to call themselves an LA team. Anaheim might as well be on the moon with how hard it is to get to if you live in LA or the valley.

I need to make a macro to save myself typing this out all the time.

no doubt, though I suppose Lidge did get the last laugh seeing as how the Astros won the series.

Yeah, winning the last game at Busch Stadium was nice. Still didn't make up for the Braves winning the last game in the Astrodome.  Sigh

The Dodgers have a bunch of position players hurt so they have two rookies right now (Neuse and Peters) that are right handed bats off the bench that are not good. If he is limited to hitting against lefty pitching, he might do ok. He can't run or field anymore. No need to troll Angels fans like myself, everyone here in the LA area knows what a mess the Angels are. It's hard to make them look worse than wasting Mike Trout all of these years.

I don't know what's more ridiculous: that some team was dumb enough to believe he still belongs in the MLB or that he does. He's a hall of famer but he can't play. Period.
