No sense in spending on frivolous things like health care or infrastructure.  That's the GQP way.

What they can't understand is why Trump did poorly in districts where local Republicans won. I saw it all around me in rural Illinois.  Republicans said they skipped the presidential choice. Didn't like Trump but sure wasn't going to vote for a Dem.

I think many of these MAGAtools are aware of the fraud perpetrated by the GQP in their back yards.
Farking problem: it was not enough cheating and suppression to overcome the Dem voting.
They are flummoxed by the lack of Dem fraud proof but are absolutely sure it must exist, somewhere, somehow.

Far as I know, Arizona made the wackjobs pay for the recount.

But I am waiting for one of these red states to actually pay for it.

It might be against the law, but you know some far right Trumpster will try to find a way around and make the citizens pay for it

That's fair, and aligns with my own mantra that the behavior expected of others is that which we engage in ourselves. MAGAtools are on the side of voter disenfranchisement, so they expect the other side to do the same.

The Arizona circus sideshow was always intended to be a traveling roadshow. Republicans and other autocrats want their base to be suspicious and doubtful of democracy. The voter suppression, the use of gerrymandering to thwart majority rule, the "audits" and "investigations" of the certified election results, the support and defense of the failed attempt to overthrow our democracy on January 6th, the 174 Republicans who voted to overturn the election results on January 7th, it's all of a piece. It's all a coordinated effort with the goal of eliminating our democracy and in its place installing an autocracy.

The size of the dung-heap outside one's door determines one's rank in Republican politics like in Voltaire's Westphalia.

/ I read Candide because of its first sentence describing Candide:  "His face was the index of his soul."

Like many thick and stupid books, some people have no index.

Well, it's not just that.

So long as the GQP keeps the lie continuing that Biden isn't the legally elected President, they can put it into enough people's minds not to trust any election results (except for those that have a Republican as a winner, obviously).

In Arizona, Mexicans used to buy a lotto ticket with the previous winning numbers, and then say that their illegal status didn't allow them to claim it, so they'd ask you to do it for them, but they'd need to hold some sort of collateral from you so you didn't just run off. People would get so excited about the numbers matching that they wouldn't notice the date and get scammed constantly.

They're saying that this audit should be finished by fall 2021, which is ridiculous. I wonder if part of the plan is to string these audits out long enough to keep the topic of fraud lingering long enough for the midterm elections.

I think that is a good a priori.

JFC.

The actual results of the election pretty closely matched all the reputable polling data; including (according to sources inside Trump's own campaign) the internal polling his campaign was doing. They knew they were very likely to lose, and lose by a lot. They knew they were going to get hammered. This is just pants on head stupid at this point.

I mean, it's a direct assault on the key concept of democracy: peaceful transfer of power.  When someone loses an election, they accept the results and voluntarily transfer power to the winner of the election.

To me, the most damaging parts of the election laws passed in places like Georgia isn't so much restricting access to the polls, which is bad, of course, but the really insidious part are the expansions of the ability to contest election results, shifting that power to partisan officials.  It's the kind of power to overturn the election that Republicans did not have in 2020.

It's always hilarious how democrats are the only adults in politics. The only time that democrats went close to this batshiat crazy over an election was in 2000.

The GQP knows that they are the only ones committing election fraud but still use that imax projector to claim it's the other side

And when. It's all done, shrug.

lilplatinum: shiathole states.

They very much are not shiathole states. Arizona and Wisconsin are perfectly fine states whose voting populations voted Biden (and for Democratic governors and in 3/4 cases for Democratic senators) with shiathole state legislatures who have rigged the system so that Republicans maintain power with a minority of votes, and who would like to rig the system further so that they don't lose statewide elections.

Casting them aside as just "shiathole states" is dumb, counterproductive, and just wrong.

Republicans tried to spin investigations of Russian interference in the 2016 election as a politically motivated "witch hunt."  But the batshiat crazy going on in Arizona right now is a "legitimate investigation".

Basically, yep. This is a very cynical, dishonest, and dangerous strategy.

They've decided on undermining the very legitimacy of the electoral process in general, to undermine any future losses and try and throw a monkey wrench in the system wherever they lose. Creating fear, uncertainty, and doubt. When they win power, no problem for them, but they want to open up possibilities for reversing losses too. They just need to make the accusations, then endlessly look for evidence they can manufacture to support it.

And fundraising. The more FUD they inundate people with, the more the donations to various PAC's roll in, books get bought, media appearances are demanded, cruise packages are booked, etc..

They're willing to blow up the republic itself to seize power and make dollars.
