Eh..... I don't see it as a big loss
Especially when your whole business practices seem to be scooping some sort of "meat" into a taco then microwaving it.
I'm sure there's better ways to keep it warm

You're thinking of Taco Bell.  Taco Time is so much better.

I once worked at a family bakery. The wife and her sister made cookies and decorated cakes, and the two husbands baked bread in a wood fired stove. I did deliveries and operated the bread slicer - a great invention, by the way.

Their bakery took over the previous local bakery, which had been there 20 years. Now it is a Starbucks. There was already another Starbucks across the street.

Whenever I'm in an unfamiliar town, I sometimes get Starbucks thinking it will be better than truck stop Farmer Brothers coffee. I always feel I chose poorly.

The_Sponge: Team Taco Time!

Based on the TFA, the real problem here is the landlord, not Starbucks. If Starbucks thinks it would be a good location, it's hard to blame them for offering more rent than taco guy is paying. That has to be what's going on on here, because if the money is the same, why would the landlord care who pays the lease? Unless maybe taco guy has been late a time or two, and landlord assumes a Starbucks would never renege on a payment. In which case I can't entirely blame the guy, even if he's wrong.

Which is not to say I'm not sympathetic to taco guy's plight. I wish him well.

Nope every taco time I've been to involved a microwave.
Prefer my tacos and burritos not to be microwaved
Mexi fries aren't that bad and the hot sauce is pretty good

Been to several taco times
Everyone I've been to the meat was microwaved.

They're really good for fast food quality, but obviously there are much better places in my town for Mexican food....especially this really small place that makes awesome lengua burritos.

I'm a former Sonics fan, so my reason for hating Starbucks is legit.

It's worth going to Taco Time just for the hot sauce. Delicious and not available anywhere else I can find.

However, Taqueria La Bamba will make any mexican fast food blush with shame. Muy delicioso.

If we are talking chain taco shops. At least make it fuzzys (mmm Baja shrimp tacos and breakfast tacos) or Torchies (I am not above getting a trailer park taco extra trashy).

We need more of those kinda chains than we need another Starbucks.

They're pretty much fast food/ fast/casual. Foods tasty and they also serve alcohol.

Many a slow morning in Austin when the ex and I would hit up Fat Cats for mochas, walk next door to a Fuzzys, get breakfast tacos and a shot of whiskey. Whiskey went into mocha, sat outside and enjoyed sun with the now spiked mocha and breakfast tacos.

Two Burger Kings closed in my town and reopened as Starbucks.  I don't patronize either so it doesn't matter.  The Starbucks are much busier than the Burger Kings were.  I imagine the people who lived here for decades have sort of done Burger King and had enough, as I did.

Alas, it was Taco Time and I could not hide my disappointment. TT isn't bad, but TJ is way better.

I really want to dispute this, but every time Kelowna has made the news for the past years, it's because of people being vapid twunts.

There's a mix of Alberta assholes and Vancouver airhead hippies mixed over a substrate of homegrown dipshiats.  Admittedly, I didn't leave because of that, but because there aren't any jobs for neutrino chemists there.

If she's still available, they have a $500 hiring bonus now. I don't want to see mine shut down for lack of staff. Love TJ's taco salads!

I am no fan of either either, but Kelowna is an entirely different mind set and lifestyle than Alberta. Kelowna always struck me as trying way to hard to convince themselves that they are as good as Vancouver. The people who want so hard to be relevant but aren't. They move to Kelowna to big fish in the little pond

Only recently did I learn that there are two different chains of Taco Time restaurants.  One, Taco Time Northwest, exists exclusively in western WA state, plus restaurants in Wenatchee and Moses Lake (central WA).  AFAIK, I've never eaten in a TTNW restaurant.

My experiences with Taco Time and Taco John's has left me with the impression that TJ's Taco Bravo is about the only reason to prefer that chain over TT.

Owner Ray Heathcote has been in a legal battle with a Vancouver-based landlord who wanted to see the building taken over by a Starbucks. In July 2019, Heathcote launched a website trying to rally support and he got a lot of it, for what it was worth.
...
He said he's currently scouting new locations.

It's a real shame that he hasn't had... I don't know... like TWO YEARS to do it.

This thread got me thinking ... about my shop being about a 5-minute walk from a Taco Time. TIL that their Santa Fe ranch, one of the approved dipping sauces for Mexi-Fries, is a mix of salsa and ranch.  My disappointment at learning that they were out of Sante Fe ranch was tempered by the employee who handed me containers of each and spilled the beans, figuratively.  Fortunately, my crisp pinto burrito was intact until I got it.

After 40 years it probably needed a complete tear down.

What if the whole "Starbucks across from each other" is a scam like the mattress stores were doing? Sign a long and high lease to make the occupancy rate and revenue look high for the refinancing of a property, but never really pay that rate.
