Since he's fully vaccinated is not so bad, eh Bill? (asymptomatic bastard!)

They must test all the time at the studios.

Maybe he could continue this new streak.

Jon Oliver might want a new show?

When I was a kid I used to think he was funny but he's really just an insufferable prick. I don't hope he dies from the thing but a good cough I wouldn't mind.

So the insufferable prick had a sufferable prick?

I'm worse. I used to think he was smart.

And I wasn't a kid at the time.

/well, mid 20s so maybe

I generally like Maher's guests, but hate him. Hate, hate, hate.

He's a smug asshole.

2021-05-13 11:57:10 PM
I like him because he pisses people off but isn't a deplorable. He says stuff no one else will, but also votes the same way as me. He's interesting, even though I disagree with him a fair amount of the time. It's just that I hate mob thinking. He questions mob thinking.

However, it doesn't surprise me that he got COVID. I'll bet he hasn't been super careful.

His follow-up show should be good. I watch him for the guests. His jokes are so lame sometimes I laugh and when he's wrong? Oh, boy is he wrong. Fun stuff. I'm glad he's okay because this "breakthrough" stuff is I think more common than people think. People don't normally test after vaccination so I think data collection is weak after vaccination. The big thing is to get vaccinated. Even if you get it, it's statistically insignificant if you are harmed and spread it to hurt others. So get it. Get the vaccine.

I feel really bad about this, because it's not last year and so there's such a small chance it will kill him

Honestly, can HBO get the guests (Max Brooks, Neil deGrasse Tyson, and some history podcaster guy) to show up at a studio table, and discuss science?

Without Bill Maher, it might be MORE INTERESTING.

Also, Bill, STFU on playing the vaccine both ways. He had some college profs on months ago sowing doubt over mRNA in the vaccine, and Bill's been anti-vax in the past and wanted everything open because ... he part owns the NY Mets and was losing money because no one was going to the games.

/wish NdGT would biatch slap him for cutting him off years back

Some history podcast.... That's some way of describing Dan Carlin.

I disagree with him a lot of the time but I watch his show because it's the only show left that gets liberals and conservatives on the same panel to have it out in a battle of ideals.

Everything else is echo chambers of self-reinforced insulating fundamentalism

/yes, even MSNBC

Tired of the purity testing - we're never going to rid society of assholes and you only turn yourself into one by trying. Maher does change when he hears a convincing argument (meaning to him, the person needing to be convinced). Most recently saw it on the Latinx thing instead of Latino/Latina.

Hardcore History is pretty great.  His WWI series of episodes was pretty incredible, especially since that subject was pretty quickly glossed over in middle school.

I have mixed feelings on Maher but gotta admit that panel is pretty solid.

Bill Maher doesn't give a flying fark if you agree with Bill Maher. That's the point of Bill Maher. Bill Maher probably got COVID from a high priced prostitute. And he doesn't care what you think about that either.

Here's to hoping covid beats the odds and sidelines Maher for a long time, hate that guys' smug schtick since forever, he's nowhere near as smart as he thinks he is, and he's 10x as smug.

As much as I like NDGT he showed up for Joe Rogan as well.

Max Brooks is Mel Brooks kid and wrote World War Z, not exactly what I would call one of the brilliant minds of a generation.

I don't recall Maher changing on that topic.  Merely discussing it with the Lt Gov(?) of CA.  Did I miss something else?

Do you know what his day job is?

Mostly he's a writer/researcher for the Modern War Institute at West Point, though he's also been a lecturer at the Naval War College.  He has a particular focus on studying failed leadership and, in particular, trying to teach leadership agility in both war and crisis management.

What all the lay people took from WWZ was "Hurr durr zombies, shoot 'em with incendiary rounds".  The real core of that book, based on his scholarly work, was examining how old-school military leadership structure is rigid and prone to inflexible strategy and decision making in the face of a shifting threat.

If he is fully vaccinated. And was completely asymptomatic why was he tested?  If the cdc says fully vaccinated people no longer need masks, why does he need to avoid people?

Notice there are never Republicans on Maddow? Because they are asked to appear  on the show and they are too chicken because they will be called out for their horse shiat.
