Cheney knows the GOP is at a danger to democracy and is willing to burn it down to stop it. Yeah, she's still a conservative, so be it, I don't care. At least she's sane and not encouraging winning through violence and destruction. More power to her.

The bar for Republicans is so low that it may as well be an underground cable.

She is actively participating in destroying democracy, just in a more nuanced (spoiler: not nuanced at all) way.

We are stuck with conservatives, they aren't going to magically disappear. What we have now isn't a conservative party, it's a racist insurrectionist movement. I'm all for anyone trying to stop them, this isn't a game. If the insurrectionists win there will be bloodshed and the end of this country.

Exactly. In a functioning democracy, we need parties of different views in order to build the best policies (in theory), the current GOP is shiat, but we do need a center-right party, just as we need a center-left party. Extremism is a vice we cannot afford in a democracy

She understands that Y'all Qaeda is a liability in the long term and is trying to undo the damage they are doing to the party.

Sure, right now, it looks like the GOP is weakened by this infighting, but if she succeeds in de-Trumpifying its rank it will come out just like her father's era of Neocon war hawks.

Same thing as always.

Continue on the path that republicans will do everything they can to restrict voting and not give them credit because they are only 99% evil.

Got anything to say about them while you're on your soapbox?

We have a center right party: the Democrats. Unfortunately, they also act as a catch all for everyone else from actual center to center left to near/middle left (there is no real far left in American politics, just a relative far left due to how skewed our politics are), because the Republicans are off the rails far right, and so need to be opposed completely.

If somehow the Republican party were to miraculously disappear from politics, we would still have opposing political parties because the Democrats would immediately split into at least two, if not three, factions: "Moderates" (who are actual center right) and "Progressives" (who would probably encompass everyone from center to middle left).

And that would be a good thing for this country.

Sadly, we're about as likely to be invaded by actual space aliens as we are for something like this to happen.

I will not be pretending that Liz Cheney cares. She's a republican.

She is working to restrict voting and make sure that young people, first time voters, and minorities don't have easy access to voting.

So all this praise being heaped upon her is bullshiat

2021-05-13 10:07:54 AM
See, and she's STILL perpetuating the lie that this was a "Trump" thing and that that's somehow different from a "Republican" thing.

This was stoked by party leadership including both houses of Congress. This is not just "Trump". She is as complicit as the rest of them.

Yeah, a lot of this.  Republicans are legendary for doing a complete reversal of where they were moments ago and pretending like nothing happened.  I'm not putting a lot of stock over her losing a leadership seat and doing a couple interviews.  When it comes to gametime, she'll shoulder right up with the rest of those clowns.

What on earth gives you that idea. Gubbo is right, she's going to continue voting straight R. She says as much right there in the interview.

She's not redeemed, or redeemable. She's lawful evil to the GQPs chaotic evil, that's it.

She is a  currently useful tool to hammer away at those who want to tear our country down.  And when her use is done, she should be discarded as you would do for any useless tool.

Because everything bad that happens to a Republican, even if it's self-inflicted, is the fault of a Democrat.  That's what personal responsibility means to a Republican.
