It takes longer when there's fat MAGA types sitting on our backs as we try to reach the finish line.

Wow. I've read about the fine art of using maps as propaganda, but not-colouring the "no change" regions of an epi map is a master class.

What's weirder is that they didn't need to do that. The USA is actually soing well.

Bennie Crabtree: soing well.

Doing.

But they are probably soing well, too. Whatever that is.

Just wait 2 weeks

2021-05-13 12:52:57 PM
I do like this much better than the last couple times cases started declining and all the state governments were like "Okay, we're slightly down from our peak, time to open everything up!"

We haven't had a good social holiday to ruin our progress in quite a while. Good news though! Memorial Day weekend is coming up!

So looks like we're at the levels of about last October.  Better, I guess...  I'll feel better when/if we see last March levels.

For the first time in a long time, nobody needs to cherry-pick some misleading data to make it seem like things are going well, and the good news doesn't need an endless list of caveats, either. It's just really good news. We're winning. Be happy.

Look, farkers need to biatch about those people,so take your good news and shove it up your axios, writer dude.

The mutated variety of COVID causing all of the misery in India has been detected in Nevada. Now we get to find out in real time if current vaccines offer much of any protection from that. Welcome to the petri dish, population you.

Yay! Looks like genuine good news. In 2 days, it will be 2 weeks since my 2nd shot, so it's part time! No? Ok, it's small gatherings with other fully vaccinated people time!!!

"Party time," dammit.

A bunch of people on a local Facebook group are naming July 4th as an Independence Day from the tyranny of masks. They are encouraging as many people as they can to go maskless on that day, irregardless of any government mandates.

7 day moving average of deaths is still at 629, about where we were in mid-June last year, 7 day moving average of cases is about 2x what they were in this period last year, but the numbers probably aren't comparable due to the massive difference in tests per day. Either way we're still a considerable distance from this being over in the US, let alone the world.

On a brighter note, my youngest is signed up for his first shot on Friday at 6:30pm so I'm about 5 weeks from no longer worrying about anyone I care about dying or having lifelong complications, which is good =)

2021-05-13 1:00:04 PM
In Israel they are at about 58% vaccinated one dose and 55% 2 doses and covid is virtually dead with a 0.1% positivity rate.

We're at 46-36%, we'll be at 60% around July 6.... we're still at 2.9% positivity with still over 600-800 people dying everyday.

It aint over yet but it will be in about 2 months.

2021-05-13 1:01:05 PM
Yeah, I'm not seeing a whole lot of room for celebration here.  This should never have gone on this long.

As soon as it was clear that the former guy not only intended to do nothing at all, but actively make it worse, the smarter people in government should have taken over.

But our government doesn't work that way.  Even if the President is making stupid, badly informed, dangerous decisions that will get half a million people killed, there is no mechanism to prevent them from doing it.

We could have gotten this under control.  We could have put a stop to this thing and gotten the country re-opened safely...  But, noooo...  We have to have respect for these idiots that think it's their right to ignore all advice and precautions.  We have to just let them do whatever they want because in this free country, we can't tell people what to do.

We have no choice but to let the actual President of the country be the champion of that stupid position.  We have no choice but to let sitting members of Congress mock the precautions and regulations.

At this point, we are probably reaching the end of this thing because of the vaccines and nothing more.  Because too many people in this country actively made it worse before that was a thing.

This country mismanaged everything.  We allowed the dumbest fark in history to lead the country straight down the path of ruin.  And half the voters tried to re-elect him.

There is nothing to celebrate here.  I'm sorry, but there isn't.

Well we are at 65% vaccinated here in Maryland, got my second shot yesterday, and when we hit 70% they are going to loosen more restrictions. I'm still probably not going out yet.

This is a good metric to get people vaccinated.  Make lifting restrictions (especially mask requirements) directly to the percentage of people vaccinated.

I'm fully vaccinated (with Moderna) & one of my coworkers REFUSES to get vaccinated because of.....wait for it.....waaaaaaaiiiiit for it.....(it's good, I promise!) because he doesn't like needles!

And you're thinking.....well, fear of needles IS a genuine fear, but here's the kicker...  he has absolutely NO issue going to the dentist to have teeth removed or have cavities filled...which requires Novocaine (sp?)....WHICH IS GIVEN THROUGH A NEEDLE!

He just went to the dentist not three weeks ago to have a broken tooth worked on.  <sigh>  I'm not even gonna argue with his illogical way of thinking.  Ya can't fix stupid!

How many clips do you need to see of people celebrating before the finish line, and failing miserably?

If you have 15 more minutes of welding to do, you don't remove your gloves and face shield.

For those whining about people who can't enjoy good news, the 'rona still killed 600 people this week.

It's not gone. There's less of it, yes, mostly because of vaccination.

Gains that can easily be farked by the many Republicans (it's mostly Republicans, but sure, there's some stupid "liberal" types in there, too) who supposedly refuse to be vaccinated and want to move about the country with no restrictions whatsoever. And they will probably be allowed to in some states.

This went on as long as it did and got as bad as it did because of Republicans. They don't give a fark about other people and that hasn't changed. The only reason we're not as bad as India now is we have an actual reasonable adult as president instead of a babbling moron.

I think she hasn't even quite started yet, but I also think the stagehands are getting the costume ready and looking for the throat spray. I'll take it.

/ fully vaccinated + 3 weeks. Not stressing about anything. They haven't found a strain yet that Pfizer isn't at least reasonably effective against.
