New Zealand is the Generation X of countries. It sits quietly on its own in a distant corner, mostly ignored, watching everyone else tear each other apart.

For much of my youth I felt NZ was a bit of a backwater, but some time in my 30s and now my 40s I grew more and more convinced of just how fortunate I am to have been born here.

It is that, but yes you very much are.

Being a backwater is not at all bad. I mean even the Japanese left you alone in WW2 and they were stomping all around the pacific.

Also you have hobbits.

I felt that way about growing up in Devon, which is picturesque and quaint rather than magnificent, so I can imagine how you feel.  I have family in Mt. Maunganui, maybe I should look in to that.  Plus, I'm a huge Aotearoa fan so I think I'll fit in quite well.

Watching "what we are in the shadows" (the movie), I could not help but think "New Zealand seems horrifyingly boringly provincial".

The French dub of the movie changes the setting to Limoges, which is the quintessential boring provincial town here

From what I hear, a car parked over the kerb is pretty exciting in New Zealand at the best of times. Someone mending a flat tyres can attract onlookers from a hundred miles around.

Well, it looks to be an F12 so it's someone who clearly appreciates the traditional Ferrari V12 in a front engine configuration, and also follows the custom of buying a GT car in a color other than Rosso Corsa.

While I wouldn't do tan, it could be that they either have previously purchased multiple cars in the shade and want to continue, or they are hoping that a fairly unique spec will earn them enough points (so to speak) to get them on the list toward the cars that are only for the VIP customers.

It's a while back now, but I taught at the university of Limoges for a couple of years. One class I taught was part of a course in two foreign languages. Most of the students hadn't been to Paris, let alone any foreign country. I went back a few years ago and virtually nothing appeared to have changed.

This is something people don't realize.  You can't just go buy a Ferrari.  You can. You can buy a California. Other build platforms are effectively sold out. What you can get is a sketchy 5000 mile, 6 owner yet somehow this years model secondary market nightmare.  Everyone thinks they got this. 99.9% of people don't, in fact, got this, so your frame is probably all farked up.
Unless you can get a new one. Which like you mentioned, you can't.

Yes, although it's now the Portofino or the Roma as your first new Ferrari.

Assuming you can order one, which as always isn't a given, expect to select about $35k to $50k in options. Your dealer will help you select, and by select I mean they'll steer you towards what makes the car the most marketable when you sell it.

Of course, you are free to pay MORE and then get something funky, but just realize that whenever you want to get what you want, it needs to involve paying more.

You probably should also have some money set aside for events if you're in it for the long haul. And get rid of that trashy Lambo. It's vulgar and you will not make VIP status if you own one.

Fark!  It's actually a California T.

For some reason I prefer the regular California, so I just never really looked at the T.

Good catch.

You can tell quality of life by what's a big enough deal that it makes the headlines (assuming no active suppression of the press). In the US, it's a coup attempt by a sitting president. In new Zealand, it's a poorly parked car.

Because getting a driver's license in China only entails a book test, not a road test.
