Sure... tens of Republicans will now suddenly start voting for the Democrats... sure...

No it won't. 70 million Americans are dedicated to seeing the end of democracy/western civilization because a person with brown skin might just be treated somewhat fairly in society or under law is unacceptable to them.

How broken-brained do you have to be to believe that ousting Liz Cheney from Republican leadership in May of 2021 is going to affect Republican-leaning voters in November 2022? If the decades of fascism and warmongering and bigotry and failed economic ideology wasn't enough to get these people to stop voting for Republicans this one action isn't going to move the needle at all.

Seriously: what is the public reason they're giving to oust her?

They still can't say out loud "She's out because she won't say the election was stolen", can they?

Such weak men.

But they have though, in a way.  They have said that "she is not getting their message out."  I suppose they are stopping short of saying what that actually means.  But it doesn't take a lot to infer that it means:
1. The election was stolen.
2. Drumpf is still the leader of their party and should be supported no matter what.

Or, as was said by Rueters yesterday, "they would rather be united under a lie than be divided by the truth."

What's really amazing to me is how many people in our government are still saying that the election was stolen.  Surely they know that is a load of crap.  But they will persist on that notion for what seems like forever.

Hasn't stopped them in the past from unloading both barrels in to both feet at the same time.

Personally, I'm all on board with the GQP deciding that their popularity ceiling is the Apex of Jan 6th and never being able to rally any higher than that level.

They have to. They are stuck with a large populace who believes it. This is an ongoing process that has been happening for years with Trump. GOP reps were often asked not what their plans were or anything, but how much they agreed with Trump. In order to stay in power, they all said "oh yea, tons" and now that is the only thing measured.

What is going to happen when Trump dies or finally loses power is anyone's guess.

What ever it is that they want, then by-golly the shiat-stained ghost of Trump definitely wanted it too and you best not disagree or you're disrespecting his memory and legacy, and must be cast out into the wilderness.

It's not going to get better. It's going to mutate and evolve into something worse.

The opinions of swing voters should matter to no one.

I get that they have a ton of power because they somehow haven't made up their minds about the people in charge of the place they live and the laws that govern virtually every aspect of their lives and are almost dogmatic about not engaging with the issues

BUT

if you honestly haven't formed an opinion at this point and see both sides as equally undeserving of your vote, you are too f*cking stupid to be allowed to vote.

It's a vicious cycle, though. Republican voters are being sold no other message than "cancel culture" and the Big Lie. Republicans are invested in selling those 2 things because it's all they have. Republicans don't care what Liz Cheney believes. Most of them know Trump lost fairly. They care that she's publicly contradicting the only message they think is a winner. They are too afraid to even find out what voters would do if they stopped selling the Big Lie. I'm kind of curious what would happen, myself. Trump is the de facto leader of the party because he says he's the leader of the party, and nobody contradicts him. But what would happen if elected GOP lawmakers just stopped paying attention to him. Stopped making the pilgrimage and kissing the ring. What's he gonna do, blog about it? Ramble about it on the hotel patio while the band is on a break? I'm rambling now, I guess, to avoid doing actual work. *wanders away grumbling*

2021-05-12 8:56:48 AM
Entire GOP sh*tshow in a 4-decade-nutshell--nearly all have remained in office by fear mongering and legislating restrictions/removal of basic rights vs expansions or even protections of rights.

Now, they're pointing out one of those horrific fear mongers for a rare case of literally telling the truth about a con man (who barely won once and lost miserably the second time) as "the turd in the punchbowl". What's that tell you? Who the f*ck is surprised about all this?

Their base keeps slowly, slowly shrinking - and I want them to think that is the solution.

Heresy by thought, heresy by word, heresy by deed, heresy by action.

Heresy will no longer be tolerated.  And once they've eliminated it from their own party, they'll get to work on the rest of us.

2021-05-12 8:59:33 AM
Any outside observer -- the non-aligned seems to fit the bill -- looking in on their madness would surely take pause.

The fact that only one in 15 said that they would consider any candidate who clings to the Big Lie should be a huge red flag for Republicans.

Their tent continues to shrink -- and its not remotely a rational calculus. Unless there is some other plan than winning free & fair elections.

I disagree with Cheney on everything else, but the stand for reality is admirable. Her House address last night was stark and simple and well worth watching.

It must be awful to watch a political party you've spent your entire life in lose its mind, and with that it's fealty to democracy, around you.

We are suffering from a colossal failure of imagination, just as we did before 9/11. We can't grasp as a nation how close we are to the end of American democracy.

But if the GOP takes the House in '22, which they are likely to do, they will start by impeaching Biden. It won't succeed, but he'll still be impeached.

Then, in '24 they'll refuse to certify the winner of the presidential election, if it's Biden, Harris or anyone but a Trumpist republican (likely Trump himself).

At that point, everyone realizes that the Constitution is just a piece of paper that, like paper currency, only has power and value because everyone believes it does. And after that belief dissipates, it isn't worth the paper its printed on.

Finally, we become the Russia of the West - an authoritarian kleptocracy, increasingly isolated and in decline.

Happy Hump Day!
