(Twitter)   120 retired Generals and Admirals pen open letter pushing the Big Lie and warning of civil unrest if Biden doesn't step down. Bonus: retired French military brass penned almost the exact same letter, warning of civil unrest in France. Weird. 🤔   (twitter.com) divider line

So, anyone going to ask the people whose names are on it if they've even heard of this?

That would take reporting, we just tweet stuff out now.

Oh, so just because it fits exactly within the MO of an existing Russian campaign to seed dissension in the West, Democrats are like "Hey, this fits exactly within the MO of an existing Russian campaign to seed dissension in the West!"

Actually, I should be clear.  It's only Third Way Centrist Fake Democrats Who Go To Brunch who say that.  The noble and pure progressives like myself are too smart to blame Russia.  It's probably Hillary.

2021-05-12 8:12:34 AM
Assuming they even got their ok to use their names, I'm guessing the average age of these folks is in their 70's and they're all white.

So, big shocker what they think.

Forget these Cold Warriors crawling out of the woodwork.

I mean -- these talking points are straight out of the GRU narratives

Where's the gaslighting brigade of Russian trolls to tell us we're delusional for blaming Russia for everything?

2021-05-12 8:15:53 AM
What. The. Fark?   I hope the DOJ brings every one of those signatories in and grills their asses.

2021-05-12 8:17:31 AM
It would be easy enough to contact the people who signed their names and confirm they indeed support the letter. Not everything is Russia. We have home-grown anti-Americanism, too.

2021-05-12 8:17:37 AM
If they put their names on it willingly it should be easy with this lift to court-martial them and / or take away their benefits

Thus making Harris president.  Oh, what, you though Trump would become president if Biden stepped down? Nope. He's not on the order of succession unless you consider, "Every natural-born citizen over 35 dies, except Donald Trump" part of the order of succession.  Are you promising that no one will commit treason if Harris become president?  No?  Then I guess you aren't going to get anything you want, and better get your war on, you rats.  We're waiting.

Cross them off then!

There are approximately 5000 retired O-7s and up in the US.

So this letter is 3% of them.  Considering how many Republicans have drunk the Trump koolaid, that's actually not a bad percentage.

2021-05-12 8:19:06 AM
So, 120 traitorous farks or 120 unwilling dupes?

2021-05-12 8:19:53 AM
From the Politico article:
Among some of the more notable signatories are retired Army Brig. Gen. Don Boldoc, who is expected to run for U.S. Senate in New Hampshire; retired Army Lt. Gen. William Boykin, a former deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence, who stirred controversy for some of his anti-Muslim views; and retired Vice Adm. John Poindexter, who was the deputy national security adviser for President Ronald Reagan convicted in the Iran-Contra Affair.

It's always easy to forget just how many generals and admirals there actually are shuffling around out there, retired or otherwise.

The other concerns does the ol' "Open borders are bad" ignoring the fact that we don't have open borders and no one is saying we should have open borders.

Seems like some guys need to re-examine their oath

I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

They're delighted that he came, but they can't recall his name.

As a progressive who sees the threat posed by Russia, I reject the pro-Russia gaslighting of Fark progs like "Jake's Brother" and "Mr. Tull". The evidence is overwhelming and obvious.

2021-05-12 8:22:30 AM
Yeah, that's a bunch of boomers cranky about their Ovaltine being full of the same chemicals found in chemtrails.

The letter is just filled with the same drivel OAN and Newsmax have been pushing, and you can find every single complaint in the letter on the FB page of your uncle who isn't invited to Thanksgiving ever since *the incident*.

Yep. By attaching their names and military affiliation to it, they have put the DoD in a position where it appeas to be opposing a political party. That is strictly prohibited and all of these people should know that. I'm not yet convinced yet that they actually signed it. Flag officers (usually) are much more careful. But this is dangerous, if true. It must be investigated, and if it is true, there must be consequences.

The pathetic need you have to pretend that Americans can't generate their own homegrown cranks and loons says more about you and your historical ignorance than anything else.

It also suggests you'll be completely unhelpful in any attempts to slow the decline of America.

I think its fair to blame Russia, and Trump.  They worked together.

2021-05-12 8:26:14 AM
Skimming thru the letter, I didn't see anything about Biden stepping down, just the usual RW claptrap about OMG Socialism, OMG Marxists, Election irregularities were ignored, OMG elect more Republicans or we're all Doomed!  Just the average traipsing thru the RW lunatic mind.

Arrest them all and put them in front of a firing squad. That'll make them reflect on what stupid and dangerous assholes they are.
Supporting Trump is supporting treason, so...

Interesting list of names. Some Iran-Contra guys there (ie: Nixon-Bush Neocons), so not much credibility to speak of.

Right wingers are filth wherever they reside and try to destabilize the world. Which is wherever they are. They never farking stop trying to harm humanity. It's why I don't believe in tolerating them or talking to them like they are capable of understanding human speech.

Go to any military base Officer's Club in the country, or any bar that is frequented by military personnel. FOX or OAN are continuously on the teevees over the bar and they won't change the channel unless there's Football.

They went to a military vet convention and used a Girl Scout Cookie order sheet to cover the letter, and took the names from there.  Wait until they find out they gave their credit card info to them and the recurring GOP/MAGA donations start showing up.  But no cookies.

Here's where I wish American intelligence agencies weren't in the business of killing leftist leaders and overthrowing democratic elections in Bolivia to install right-wing governments. Instead, I'd like them to protect this country against foes like Russia.

I'm a dreamer, I know.
