They go where they're ordered.

Since 2001, the USCG has been basically used as an adjunct to the USN. In particular, they're doing convoy protection and security work in the Straits.

Today's Jerusalem Day march ends in an orgy of hate at the Western Wall. They sing: "Remember me! Strengthen me! Just this once, God, that I may with one blow take vengeance on the Palestinians (may their progeny be erased!) for my two eyes!" (altering Judges 16:28)

The 1996 song, "remember me" is associated with the Israeli far-right. In gained renewed attention after it was played in 2015 at a wedding while attendees celebrated the torching to death of Palestinian baby Ali Dawabsheh by Jewish militants.

These teens are student of pre-military yeshivas (the flag being waved is for the Tzvia Yeshiva in Dimona). Imagine what these boys will do once they are given guns and authority over millions of Palestinians, while they enjoy near-total impunity.

It seemed that in Northern Ireland, the shift towards peace started when the younger generations refused to continue the hatred. There were still Protestant marches through the Catholic neighbourhoods, but the marchers were older and the crowds were smaller.

Sadly, I think the lesson learned was that they need to keep each generation indoctrinated in the bloodshed to keep it going.

Car search over. Better luck in a year or two, maybe, but it's Yaris all the way for now. -_- It's just... incredible. The whole car market right now. When I bought that thing, it was a universally panned jelly bean that not even Toyota believed in, as evidenced by the actual slogan for the Yaris: "It's a car!" That same year, the Avalon had, "Drive Avalon class," and Camry and Corolla had similar catchy tag lines. But then there was the Yaris. "It's a car!" And all reviewers could say was, "Yes, it certainly is."

That little car has 1. better brakes than the Kia Soul, 2. better get-up-and-go than the Kona, CX-3, Soul, and just about every CVT-dependent car on the market, 3. better, more comfortable seats than the upper trims of all the aforementioned cars plus the Seltos, HRV, CRV, RAV-4, CX-30, and Mazda 3 hatch, 4. a better, smoother ride and less road noise than all of the aforementioned except the RAV-4 and Seltos, and better everything than Toyota's current Yaris wannabe, the CH-R. To get something merely satisfactory to upgrade over the Yaris, I'd have to go for something at or greater than $30k, or buy something more than 4 years old. Seriously, car manufacturers: what the hell?

I give up. Maybe in a year or two or five, the market will settle down, or CVT's will mature into something better, or electrics will take over and all will be glorious. In the meantime... Y'know, Columbo might've been onto something; just take care of the old car, and it'll take care of you.

BREAKING: The Salvation Army is one of the largest providers of drug rehab in the US. Its main method of treatment is "work therapy" at thrift stores that pull in $598 MILLION+ in annual sales. Now they're facing a lawsuit alleging labor law violations.

Participants said they worked 40+ hrs per week picking up donations, hanging clothes, pricing housewares, matching shoes, manning machinery at the warehouse, etc.

In exchange, the org paid them as little as $1 per week or w/ "canteen cards" they could use to buy soda or chips.

This suit is significant because the Army has staved off labor department action for YEARS. Our reporting found that after the @USDOL found the rehabs violating labor law, the Army filed a lawsuit, lobbied federal lawmakers and got them to drop the case.

Ah yes, the old accordion door trick unscrupulous plumbers employed to cut labor and material costs.

/doesn't know wtf he's talking about

lol. Over the weekend the leak upstairs got worse and water began making its way down to my unit. I started noticing moisture in the bathroom closet where my water heater is located and the accordion door started to swell in the one corner.

Mrs. Ride has hated the door forever due to coming off its track because she doesn't open it gently. Now I have no excuse not to get a new one installed.

Yeah, the Mazda salesman mentioned that one first. The microchip thing might explain some of the price problems. But what really disappointed me is just how many cars have spent oodles on electronics, only to cut corners on things like the engine, transmission, and suspension. I can see why the salespeople point out all the digital features and try to get your eyes to look there; the moment I paid attention to literally any other part of the drive, I'd notice something my Yaris does better. The one that came close was the Seltos, and my wife wasn't comfy in that car, so, that one's out, too. It's just a mess of a market. Make a good car, first, then add bells and whistles.

This shouldn't be hard; they did it in '09 with two doors and a 4-speed automatic, for crying out loud.
