somedude210: The sound of an entire political party jumping into the void

They did that (gleefully) on January 6.  The next 10 or so years will be very dangerous for the country, but assuming we survive it, the Republican party is as good as dead.

2021-05-10 6:45:57 PM
Republicans want to violently overthrow the government and install a fascist one-party state where all the power and wealth is controlled by a handful of white-collar criminals but Democrats might give people health care so both sides are equally horrible.

2021-05-10 6:46:32 PM
Let this be a warning to anyone who tries to confront the GOP with reality.

2021-05-10 6:47:01 PM
For the party that accuses the left of canceling and silencing them, they are sure cancelling and silencing those who don't agree with their lockstep views.

Look for the Coward Label.

Cowards. Creeps. Cretins. They only want to be reelected and if they thought getting rid of Trump would get them elected, Donnie would have been nothing but a lingering McDonald's fart months ago.

The nation is dead. If you're hoping that things will be better by 2024, or even 2022, you're in for a big surprise.

Hope everyone has at least the outline of an exit strategy, because the "United" States of America as we knew it is gone.

Really? Why do you think so? I'm not trying to be combative here, because I hope you're right. The thing is, the GQP seems to be immune to consequences other than losing elections in a razor-thin fashion. Your elections shouldn't be this close, yet they are...at least where it counts. They farking encouraged a mob to take over your Capital and even the Democrats seem content in letting bygones be bygones, save for not getting in the way of a few idiotic assholes being prosecuted because they were the meat sacks that actually did the storming.

So...why do think the GOP is as good as dead?

Who would have thought that Liz Cheney would face a kangaroo court of her own party's toadies? It's like we didn't see this coming at all.

It's also weird how the only candidates ever dodging debates and/or town halls are Republicans.

The one consolation prize is that, I am assuming, since they put "continue to grow each day" that really means "we're struggling to keep our heads above water".

2021-05-10 6:56:54 PM
As someone who grew up listening to the Republicans shiat themselves on the regular about the "Soviets" and also government overreach and being the "grownups" (as opposed to the Democrats, who, due to their distressing desire to actually help people who aren't rich, were considered the people who lived in a fantasy world), everything they say now is hilarious.

Also frightening? Sure.

But hilarious.

Above all else, Liz Cheney's refusal to lovingly tongue-bathe Ex-President Useless farkwad's asshole -- thus making all the many current tongue-bathers look like the eunuchs they really are -- is the real crime here. She's making them look bad. She's making them look weak. You know, like a woman.

She wouldn't be admirable in any other context, but ... it's 2021, so here we are, LOL.

Would sign up for any kind of appropriate conflict, but I imagine I'll expat for the sake of my sanity well before enough Americans get to where I am on that. I'm working poor, but I think I can swing getting certified for teaching English as a second language (the process isn't complicated or too long) and want to learn American Sign Language since my hearing impairments have made me reliant on lip reading in the past. Not thinking past that at the moment, but something like South Korea or maybe Chile would be nice.

The Cheney family have been instrumental in the current condition of the Republican party, as far back as Nixon. They've helped mold the party into the power-grubbing monster it has become. Now that monster has turned on them.

Make no mistake, the endgame was intended to culminate around a smart, charismatic leader that would be able to rally everyone under a totalitarian rule. The continued usage of the politics of fear and rage did a lot to help get a complacent base, however that base was wholly ignorant and driven purely by said fear and rage. That base latched onto the first demagogue that came along that bothered to finally say out loud what they had wanted to for so long. This meant that those in the party that weren't part of the idiot reformation had to cuddle up to them, or loose power.

What we are seeing now is the split between those in the Republican party who would rather sacrifice a little power now in the idea that a more competent and complacent figurehead can be put into power who would carry out the grand scheme (Cheney, Romney, etc.), and those that would rather try to cling to the power they feel that they already have and nakedly grab at the totalitarian goal.

This whole thing is monsters fighting monsters. The small hope is that they eliminate themselves and we can get to at least a 2 party government that is between the center-left and the far progressive left, instead of the current center-right and the far facist right.

One can dream...

The problem is even if its monsters fighting monsters and you hope they wipe each other out, you ultimately still have to mobilize and prepare to take on the potential victor of that fight out of sheer precaution.  Simply hoping they both just magically vanish is not a solid plan for any conflict.

Lmao.  It's bizarre that they are on track to choose an LGBTQ friendly RINO over Liz Cheney's impeccable conservative street cred.  Liz is wealthy, is a legacy high office holder, thinks torture of "foreign combatants" is a great and effective way to treat human beings.
The GQP transitions every decade or so.  We saw the neo-conservatives replace the WWII generation in the 1990s, with free trade and peace get ousted by 9/11 war on terror idiots and the Patriot Act.  Then we saw them fall apart in 2008 and become bridge trolls until MAGA.
