The whole Dogecoin thing is just dumb enough that it's probably gonna explode. I should buy 50 just for the hell of it. Worst that happens is I'm out 30 bucks. I'm sure I've spent more on dumber more useless things.

As a GenXer, I lived in a world in which a 12-year kid could play with an 8-bit computer and turn a hobby into a life-altering career. (And a few of us became billionaires along the way. I wasn't one of those, but it happened.)

Be grateful that although we made the sensible decision to stay on the conservative sandwich-heavy investment platform, a generation of Zoomers and Millennials who were teenagers and young adults at the start of the cryptocurrency bubble also got their chances to turn their obscure hobbies (that none of their Xer parents understood) into life-altering careers.

The market can stay irrational far longer than you can stay solvent. So, you can jump onto a bandwagon and make some money, or you can sit back and piss and moan about how everyone else making money is doing it wrong and then when it does crash claim that you knew all along.

The thing about permabears is that they only have to be right once. No one ever looks back and sees the thousands upon thousands of times they were wrong.

That statement only has meaning in a market that's expected to grow in the long run, like stocks, or crypto as a whole.  Not dogecoin, or any individual coin except maybe BTC and ETH, or even any individual stock.

So if I give then one coin now, it should be good enough for a ticket to ride in a year.  Otherwise, they just don't have faith in their currency's value.

Sigh.

That's what I did.  Spent $40 as a joke when it was at $0.05.  I'm in it for the lulz, but low key also remembering the chance I had to get in on BTC when it was less than $1.

I grabbed several million in Shiba Inu coin that's taking off.  Doubled already.  Probably just pull my initial $ and let it ride.

Way more coins than even doge so I doubt it ever gets to a full penny.  Just trying to ride the hype.

My problem is that I know what Bitcoin is and how it works.  So I have known from the very beginning that it's just a toy.  I had no idea people would do crazy shiat with it.

I had the same problem when Pets.com was valued at a billion dollar market cap.....

Funny how times have changed. Pets.com wasn't a terrible idea and its peak market cap was actually only $300MM despite all the attention it got.

Now we have countless tech startups valued in the tens or hundreds of billions from day one. There wasn't unlimited free money in 1999 like there is today.

That toy is worth over a trillion dollars..
Have fun sitting on the sidelines and bleating...beany babies...tulips...bleet bleet.
If it all ends in ten years you can say 'See! I called it' - and everyone that made millions will wish they would have listened to your wisdom.

Everyone thinks they can time the market and cash out making millions.  Few do.  Not saying there isn't going to be some people who make out like bandits, but a whole lot more are going to lose their shirts as they got in at a high rather than a low.

Invest what you can afford to lose if you want to.  I am still curious who is going to take all these various coins and NFTs beyond speculators.  I am not saying speculators can't make you money, but if the only people buying items are because they feel they will be worth something more in the future and don't want to lose out, that isn't a very sustainable market to me. Risk vs reward doesn't match up in my mind and by the time your friends and neighbors are pitching coins and media is deluging the airwaves with stories, it seems to be closer to the collapse than the rise based on previous historic bubbles.  I certainly could be wrong, but jumping in now doesn't feel financially wise, but I am far from an expert.
