From his wikipedia entry: "He drowned his wife, Harue, in the bath before unsuccessfully attempting to kill himself through methods including hanging, putting his head in a gas oven, jumping out of a window (only to have his fall broken by plastic dustbins), and finally driving his car head-on into a bridge[...H]e was taken back on by The Sun on condition that he be confined to the office."

Because there was no tub there?

I mean...being confined to the offices of The Sun may SEEM like prison to some people but I'm not sure that it is so defined under the British criminal code.

Sounds like OJ's obit is set.

Their obits do usually mention it certainly.  Although the skin color defines how prominent that fact is, typically.

And there's another reason to say don't read the Sun.

He spent a small amount of time in a mental hospital. Apparently no prison.

Uh, he was convicted of MANSLAUGHTER despite DEFINITELY INTENDING to kill his wife.  They couldn't prove it even though he DEFINITELY DID IT.

That's one impressive fail there!

Say what you will about The Sun, but they apparently offer staff a lot of job security. Although not sure how much security one can have working down the hall from a murderer. At least, people there know about him. It's the murderers one doesn't know about at the office that should be most worrisome.

It was 'diminished responsibility'. ie that he was batshiat crazy at the time of the murder, therefore he couldn't be held fully responsible for it.

oh just because a guy is a murderer, oh he's the worst person ever
fark this bullshiat
you can't be defined by the worst thing you've ever done
we can't just throw everybody behind bars forever and forget about them

//i've met multiple people who have killed other people and everyone's like "oh look at him we gave him a medal for doing so many murders"

I wonder if he'd be charged with manslaughter if his wife was white....

2021-05-09 8:50:06 PM
-oh what did your dad do
he shot multiple vietnamese guys in the head with a sniper rifle
-sounds pretty bad, why'd he do it?
because some rich guys told lbj that if my dad didn't murder those guys, employers would have to pay their workers what they're worth
-sounds like tortuous reasoning
come on, it's not like he drowned those vietnamese guys in the bath after going crazy

2021-05-09 8:50:14 PM
I see the goat and he's not dead yet have been covered.

But the 'murdering his wife' was not on my bingo card...

dude if you think that's bad, in most states you can still get reduced to manslaughter if you catch your wife cheating

splelps: he failed his part of a suicide pact with his wife. I could think of worse things

Did he agree with his wife about that pact?

Anyways, just get a grill, put it in the bathroom, light it, and go to sleep. You won't wake up.

So he killed his wife but then not that long after went back to his job?  I feel like I'm missing something here.

That is some kind of employment contract. I mean, I've seen some shiat with tenured professors being allowed to stay on faculty after outrageous acts, but murder? Damn. Confined to an office? What does that even mean? Could he order in for lunch? Did he have his own bathroom? Damn.

Then they just ignore all of that.

The Sun wrote to the court that heard his case, to say there would always be a job open for him at the paper.

See, young people, back in the day before employees became "human resources," you could count on your employer to back your homicidal insanity play. You don't see that much any more.

Gotta say half a dozen suicide attempts do tend to suggest some sort of mental problem. Also poor planning ability. I wonder if anyone thought it a bit suspicious that he had a perfect record on attempts to kill his wife and then went 0 for 6 from the floor in the suicide half.

Well, you know. At some point 45 yrs had elapsed after Hitler tried to exterminate the Jews... you have to admit that's a long time in a person's past. Gotta just move on.
