Egos. Isms. They're special compared to the rest of the world so  we don't need to worry. You can bet there is a lot of that exceptionalism vibe

Backlash from some incidents that involved the MMR vaccine, Japanese exceptionalism (It's not us, it's the dirty foreigners bringing it here...), too many levels of bureaucracy, etc. That said, Japan....Florida is making you look bad at this point.

The first time someone who has recent been in India bullshiats their way into Japan things are going to go to shiat in a hurry.

Is the low vaccine rate due to lack of vaccine availability or resistance to getting vaccinated?

And they're still talking about doing the Olympics in Tokyo in 2 and a half months. Probably time to push that back a year again.

/no way they can cancel it
//not with the money that would be lost from that

Dafatone: Is the low vaccine rate due to lack of vaccine availability or resistance to getting vaccinated?

They have the vaccines, but Japan is not really handing them out well. Sounds like each prefecture has to handle it on their own, and don't know how. I think is the rollout on how to give out the vaccine more so than resistance. At least with the two articles I read.

I forgot to mention they also are waiting for the manga & anime series to be ready where a young 1st year school nurse has to convince her students who are afraid of the vaccine to get it, which she does in the most over the top ways (and usually in very little clothes).

Hataraku Saibou (cells at work) already did a special Covid edition.

Manga's so self aware you can't even make fun of it. It's quicker on the draw.

When it really comes down to it, Covid has proved that only two or three nations on earth could make a good all-round Kaiju and the rest of them, like Japan, would only really be able to make components.

they should just BOGO them in the used panty vending machines. I bet that'd bring the number up from 2.2%.

Over/under on the Olympics being the next global superspreader event?

Cause I'm pretty sure more fluids are going to be swapped in the Olympic village than the rest of the planet has all the past year.

It's a disgrace.  I've been living in Japan for fifteen years now and I've never seen more people so pissed off that they're not even trying to hide it.

The feeling is that the government higher-ups prioritized hosting the Olympics over the health, safety, and lives of the people who live here.

Everybody I know had wanted the Olympics canceled entirely.  Like, it'd have been nice and all, but not at this cost.

Japan has had relatively low COVID number up until now and that is 100% down to *most* people taking it upon themselves to do what's possible to prevent the spread.  Masks, sanitizer, whatever distancing is possible.

The government ****ed that up with their ridiculous travel and dining incentives WAY too early.

People have been choosing to do what they can for over a year now, and we're all getting tired of it.  The cracks are showing.

The first day non-healthcare workers were eligible for the vaccine, there something like 2,000 doses available for TOKYO.  There are apartment buildings in Tokyo with more than 2,000 people in them, ffs.
