That would be an amazing show to see if you had a time machine to take you back to 1996.

Nine Inch Nails has put out nearly a dozen records since then.  He does soundtracks and has side projects as well.  It's not like Soundgarden, who at their last show played nothing newer than Black Hole Sun.   Their stage production is top notch and they play their asses off.  I will say Trent has adjusted a handful of the high notes, but the energy is phenomenal.

Yeah, this guy's not kidding around.  Trent Reznor knows how to entertain people.  Even a guy like me who's not that into his style of music.  Incredible show though.

NIN should open for The Pixies. This isn't quite as bad as when I saw Frank Black open for They Might Be Giants. I like TMBG, but they're nowhere near as important as Frank Black and NIN and The Pixies are at least equals, though I'd say The Pixies are far more important in music history. I'll just say it, they're just way better.

Paz Lenchantin is doing a fantastic job with the Pixies, so please stop crying about Kim Deal.

I've never really liked the Pixies that much.  I've seen them in concert and listed to a few of their albums.  Just not my thing.
//not sure why
//I do like "here comes your man"
//everything else is kinda amplified noise to me.

I'm starting to wonder if subby is even old enough to know who the Pixies are.

Pixies didn't exist in 1996. Saw them twice in '91 though and then '05 and '10. Stellar each time. The most recent was the best though.

It's only Sunday but this is the stupidest thing I'll read all week. Trent Reznor was was doing a more or less new thing at the beginning and was way more commercially successful. People act like Frank Black invented dynamics.

I'm a big fan of the Pixies and don't care for NiN but I'm not a deluded moron about my own tastes.

I've been having a nostalgia binge on Pandora lately, and have really been enjoying hearing Pixies songs I haven't heard in over a decade. Trompe le Monde was a criminally underrated album at the time and is growing to be one of my favorites.

Saw NIN at MSG in the 90s with Marilyn Manson opening. Would have much preferred the Pixies in that slot.

And Nine Inch Nails did nothing new. Absolutely nothing new. You're acting like Reznor invented industrial or something and that's just a joke.

I saw the Pixies for the first time when they opened for Love and Rockets in 1990 at Great Woods in MA. They were unlike anything I'd heard before. Black Francis was extra screechy. They remain a favorite.

Right? Trent Rezor sucks ass. If anything, he's ruining the Pixies.

And anyway, without Kim Deal they really aren't Pixies.

Kim brought a tough sleazy hotness that is simply not possible without her.

/she smiled at me once back in the 90s. I was crushed against the stage in a gymnasium, her smirk was wrapped around a cigarette.

I remember when this came out in 1991 when I was a big fan of both the Pixies and Jesus and Mary Chain. At the time I thought it was so weird for a band to cover a song that had just come out two years before, and was out of the mainstream. And it just blew me away hearing a song I already loved being played even better. This is still the song I bring up when talking about how covers can be better than the original, even when the original is great to begin with.

I saw the Pixies in 1989, 1990, 2005, and 2009, I think. They were phenomenal every time. The best was probably the 2005 show at lollapalooza in Chicago. They basically filled Hutchinson field with sound. Only saw NiN once, on the first lollapalooza tour in 1991. They were excellent.

It's a smart move because the pixies do minimal lighting and backdrop for their shows, where the nine inch nails have a bloody lighting department on tour. So they can set it up and not have to worry too much about the support act messing with the stage.

Also pixies better band than nine inch nails. So there's that too

I love both The Pixies (also, the Deal sisters' side projects) and NIN (though Trent Reznor can be extra). You're selling They Might Be Giants short. They've not just made great albums from catchy pop tunes to music for kids. They've also put on some of the best live shows I've ever attended. I've seen Tupac, Green Day, K'naan, DJ Shadow. TMBG can hype an audience with the best of them.

Kinda like TMBG for me.  Love them to death, one of my favorite bands ever - top 10 at least.  Doesn't make them a top-tier band as far as overall notoriety and influence though, sad as that may make me.

Caught Frank Black opening for Pearl Jam in Chicago '98. I admit I had no idea who he was, but it was a good show. Now that concert poster is worth bug buck$. If only...
