That's just asking for someone to say "your mom".

/I was going to say it, but I don't have a $20 bill on me and she doesn't accept cards.

You're quite the card yourself, but I can see why she won't accept you.

But seriously, my mom's been dead for quite a while. On these days I do always feel a bit guilty for not appreciating her more when I was young/when she was still alive. My mom was uneducated, very oldfashioned and conservative and completely in service of her husband and family. When I was young I couldn't wait to get out of that environment. It's only after I came home from my first stint abroad and after my father died that I realized she was the victim, not me.  But by then Alzheimer has gotten hold of her mind and never really got to talk to her anymore.

Going to see her and give her a hug for the first time since December 2019 now that we're both fully vaccinated.

One son is half-vaxxed, so we're all being patient this close to the finish line by continuing to avoid contact.

I'll try to hide in my room for a while longer, as I got my second shot on Thursday.  But, I fully expect to be summoned to the kitchen by the sound of slamming cabinets and wails of hunger because all the microwave ready food is gone.  Toast, scrambled eggs, grits, and bacon are hard work.  Hamburgers on the grill are even tougher.

Today is the special time of the year where many people show appreciation and gratitude for a very important figure in their lives. In our darkest and most troublesome moments, this guardian has protected us from harm and always seems to know what to say to make things better; ever since our earliest memories, this personification has shown us how the world can be and taught us many core values which shaped us into who we are as human beings today. There are many times when disagreements and disturbances have caused our relationships with them to falter, yet their constant warmth and wisdom have proven invaluable and infallible over the years. It may not be apparent how much they have influenced us and been responsible for many critical decisions in life, but in hindsight it becomes clear that this truly is the greatest teacher and caregiver that one could ever have. While the words don't always seem to be said enough, they always mean a lot to the ones they are meant for, so join me in expressing heartfelt thanks toward the most prominent progenitor we could ask for: I love you, television.

My mom died 9 years ago on mother's day.  She was an amazing woman who wanted better things for me than the opportunities afforded to her, so didn't teach me the typical "women's work" (sewing typing, etc) so I would never be interested in "just" being a wife/mother and could always support myself.  I have a PhD with medical certifications, and am a mom to two great kids, so her plan worked, albeit with several wrinkles along the way.  I miss her quiet strength and support every day.

Cooking steak for her. Her husband passed a few years back, and when I miss a holiday, she always goes to the casino to gamble, now that he is gone. She prefers her children, so I tend to make it a point to at least stop in and say hi of my brother can not show up. Luckily, I woke my happy ass up at 2 am, so I can spend some time with her today after work.

Things we do, I guess.

Thank you, Subby. That's very kind.

I live with my mom (not a filterpwn, it's true), and my daughter. My mom married my dad when she was 18 and when he passed a few years ago, she was completely lost. Still is, to a certain extent. She can clean and cook and get creative with all kinds of things, but managing money, house repairs, car trouble and what-not completely stress her out. She really wanted to stay in this house, so my daughter and I moved in. It's pretty fun having 3 generations of women under the same roof. Occasionally irritating, but I wouldn't change it for the world.

We bought ourselves a Mother's Day gift...a "nugget ice" maker. (OMG I almost love it so much. "Makes" ice, but doesn't "keep" the ice. I have to bag it and put it in the freezer.) For the price? It's wonderful!

I'm making London broil for us tonight and spending the day drinking wine and watching TV. (And possibly some laundry. Well, it's not gonna do itself!)

Happy Mother's Day to all my fellow Farkers. I hope you have a lovely day.

And condolences to my fellow Farkers who have lost their moms. Let your memories comfort you, bittersweet as they are. (And reach out if you are grieving.)

Now, go away. Mommy wants a nap.

/and keep it down!

I got 2 whole compliments at work today--a woman in her sixties said I have beautiful eyes, and one of the younger dudes I work with said he liked my haircut and I heard him add to his friend as they walked away that he wished he could pull it off (high praise for an androgynous pixie cut). Then I came home and we cleaned up the kids for an (outdoor, masked) visit to my mother-in-law's and bring her flowers from work. Taught the oldest to play checkers when we got home. Now I'm browsing fark and re-reading Dune while my husband makes ribs, mac'n'cheese, and sweet potatoes for dinner. Tonight I'll either paint or play Spirit Farer. Either way it's gonna be a good time.

I cooked my wife a steak dinner last night. This morning when I got out of work I swung by a local eatery and picked her up a stack of cinnamon French toast with a side of bacon for her to munch on when she got home from her swim at the gym. Tonight before work I made her favorite pesto chicken dinner with some rice pudding for dessert. And thank goodness all the kids called her today so I didn't have to hear which one hurt her feelings. :)
