rosekolodny: Now I want noodles.

Now see I wasn't going to watch the video, 'cause I'm hungry, and I damn well knew what would happen.  And there isn't any decent Thai food I'm gonna be getting tonight.  Whew, bullet dodged.  THEN YOU HAD TO GO AND SAY IT!

Actually it's just a straight-up history lesson on how cultural identity can be created and maintained through control of food.

Of course I still want noodles.

meh, I'd like to want Nüdeln, but the 2 pieces of leftover beyond-salted-to-the-hells-and-back jumbo skrimps have me pretty well stuffed to the gills for the night I think.

/I mean, I still want noodles, I'm simply currently physically incapable of want-wanting them
//really, I should feel more ashamed of myself than usual
///except for the part where I never do
\\/mmm, tails and all

Pad Thai is boring. How can you eat thai food without spiciness?

Pad Kee Mao, now that's where it's at. Drunken Noodles...mmmm...

There is a Thai dish that uses ramen as its base for a stir fried dish.  Here is Andy Ricker formely of Pok Pok recipe for it.

hrm, the "Chinese" place 'crost the street from us does a halfway-not-disappointing pad-Thai. unable to dredgexcamavate any pics but that may be for the best, it just looks like... pad-thai? nudeln: ok. tiger-lily: huh, they'd actually still put some in there. scrambled eggs: well obviously they need foodtab to tell them how to... no, no they really do not, we good here you guys did great with the eggs. tofu-skin: lol, this is the part where my wife did not know she loved tofu-skin until now she really does. basil: just ask for extra there can never be enough. and skrimps? Herbie the babby Herbie upon himbs Tree, I d'nno how they did it, but 37 decently-medium-sized shrimp farking hidden under a bed of noodles, for 11 dollars, yes please? and yeah plenty of crushed peanut, etc.

standart epithet about the Thai/Vietnamese place in my tiny Cape Cod village, before it burned down*: it's not nearly as good as we want, but it's much better than we deserve.

*the restaurant, not the entire town, lol. but... insurance? the world may never know.

/also my beloved drop-off press'n'fold laundry was in the same plaza/building dadgammit
//no it wasn't the restaurant owners, it was a lovely older lady from Guangdong
///she and I would sit and chat over tea for hours in Cantonese, lord my heartstrings just now tugged at how much I miss that with her
\\/lol, that lady loved to mock my highfalutin' HK-speak, wicked biting humor she had

Drunken Noodle > Pad Thai

If the restaraunt has good wok breath, it ain't even close.

McGrits: Drunken Noodle > Pad Thai

If the restaraunt has good wok breath, it ain't even close.

maaan, so, earlier today? we went 'crost the Delaware into not-quite-darkest Joisey, taking a friend out for her birthday lunch. place had, literally, shrimp & mcgrits. but it was also andouille and chicken-broth, so I had to make a vegulon X-sign and pass :( she did say it was pretty-much delicious-jambalaya, so, yay! I think there was even okra in it.

so yeah our friend ordered it and looked+smelled farking amazeballs. lol, we were sitting there eating for almost an hour, and I could still see the steam coming off her plate!

meh, I've still got half of my novalox-everything-bagel from there, but jeez now I only want cheese grits. with skrimps.

/also she gave us 2 slices of her strawberry-buttercream-layer-poundcake birthday cake, and mine piece remains yet undevoured, hmmmmm...

I made a delicious pad thai tonight. Made a peanut satay sauce and a sweet/spicy/sour sauce to pour over it. Still added more sambal to my dish. Wife, she held her own this time.

I know this is well off the brief, but just had a thought - my Guj'rati ex-wife's Auntie would put raw peanuts in a lot of things. like, add to rice before you steam it. toss a handful in any random curry/gravy as it cooks. comes out about half-dente and it is farking glorious. lol, in hindi we'd call that "upahaar" ..."goodies"? sort of like Japanese "omake" - an unexpected pleasant extra.

not seasoned nor salted nor roasted, simply shelled plain raw peanuts. throw'em in there!

/great, now I need to buy peanuts

Oh goddammit. The only place for me to get pad Thai is Noodles & Co, and they've gone to complete soupy skimpy shiat in the last 10 years. Effing bummer too man, that stuff was more than adequate before.

/tofu pad thai ftw
//w lemon and sambal
