Didn't they just dump YouTube?

I am Tom Joad's Complete Lack of Surprise: Didn't they just dump YouTube?

I think they might wind up being the new Cable Company in this sea of goddamn Netflix copies... In order to get everything you want you need to build like 4-5 streaming options and Roku lets you do all of that in a neat package that comes pre-loaded on almost every TV.

Their tiff with YouTube will most likely resolve itself. They need each other.

Amazon is bundling them also. Roku didn't dump YouTube, it dumped YouTube TV.

Yeah, Amazon is definitely a tough comp, but I think Roku can hold their own.

I had a Fire 4k stick that I used for a bit but then bought a Roku. Since it does everything and more that the Firestick did, I got rid of the Firestick.  I've been pretty happy with the Roku after I took a soldering iron to the microphone on the remote.

I think Roku's has 2 main and large advantages over their competition:

1.Compatibility.  Roku has basically every streaming app there is  and a universal search that searches across all of them. You can screen mirror/cast from Android and Apple devices.  What other device can you play videos from Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV store, and Google play store?

2.Excellent and straightforward OS:  They somehow managed to build an fast operating system my largely tech illiterates parents can use.    You can stream to a Roku from an apple OR android device.

I own 3 HD tv's.  An Andorid tv, a Samsung tv, and an old plasma that has a roku hooked to it.  The Roku is by FAR the most user friendly and quick.

1 thing Fire sticks have over Roku is that it's Android based and easy to add "things" .

I have two firesticks and just hooked up a Roku to my old (2016) LG because Xfinity doesn't carry one of the services I sub to.  I also have 3 Roku TV's and their UI is much much much better than anything else I have used.  The only thing that bugs me is the volume/mute buttons on the side of the remote.  Way to easy to hit by accident.  Other than that they are a win for me and pricing is extremely competitive

If Roku drops YouTubeTV I'll drop YouTubeTV before I get rid of the 5 Roku tv's I own.

I have an LG Tv and I hate the interface to the point that I bought a Roku and plugged it into the HDMI and ignore the native OS.

Yep. I have a Firestick and a Roku. The Firestick gets used much, much more since I was able to "modify" it to get more content for free.

I have a TCL and fark that interface. I plugged in a Roku and got to watching things.

I'm looking at you iptv apps.

Why is "popped" used so frequently in that article?

We have 3 LG HDTVs, and the newest one is a smart TV with the remote that you can wave around to move on the screen. We have 3 Roku boxes hooked up to the other TVs. The smart TV has the slowest interface in the house, and the remote is the most hated thing in the house. Next TV that dies will be donating it's Roku to the smart TV.

Same, but the Firestick is a piece of junk compared to the Roku.  I have one Firestick so I can get certain content, if I could get it on my Roku the Firestick would go straight into the trash.

Bought a Roku last week. Am getting a kick. Got tired of my TV not supporting some of the biggest apps.
