Feel free to extend it to 2222.  I have no desire to be raped by a kangaroo whilst a koala creepily eats eucalyptus giving me the side eye.

You gotta love the "related" stories under it. All contradicting each other and the main story:

Look at the dates on the stories, put them in correct order, and reread.

That's a very specific fantasy, so I suspect you're not being honest about not wanting it.

Well hey tough choices have to made and that is what leaders have to do to save people. Can't have the idiots that need to live their lives running things or the whole world would be going through what India is going through. If a lot more places were strict with travel we could have saved more people.

If this was done in April of 2020, sure.  But now it's just stupid beyond all reason.

Fortunately, this decision only affects them and no one else.

If they want to tank their economy into the toilet for the next decade with moronic decisions like this, that's on them.  Be my guest.  Don't come begging us for help.

/This is PRECISELY why people aren't getting vaccinated.  If things ain't gonna open up when everyone is vaccinated, WTF is the point?

I missed the ending.

The point of the vaccine isn't to travel. It's to not die, and not kill other people.

The only reason people aren't getting vaccinated is because they are listening to ideologues like Tucker Carlson who lie to them.

Throw in some systemic inequalities in the health care system which haven't been magically solved by the vaccine availability

Things will open up when everyone is vaccinated. Probably well before then, whenever herd immunity kicks in.

The problem now is that everyone isn't vaccinated, increasingly (in the United States, anyway) due to the moronic decisions of people who expect everything to be 100% open when we're currently at 1.2 billion doses delivered to 7.7 billion people.

Ya know, as an island continent, they could have just suspended all international travel when the pandemic started, did contact tracing, and enforced strict quarantines.

Now, the horses have already left the barn and gone on an epic adventure proving that a dungeon is in fact, the best place for a pony.

They're not tanking their economy, and this isn't why people aren't getting vaccinated. It would only possibly contribute to deeply-stupid people not being vaccinated.

You may be spending too much time with the American reactionary-right. You don't seem to understand how normal people behave in their own best interest and the interest of their society, rather than just losing their minds and failing to adapt to change.

It's pretty incredible to see Tucker so far around the bend from a lifetime spent as the squeakiest propagandist that he's killing his own brainless audience to try to make Biden look bad.

This might have something to do with the borders being closed. Their government is pretty incompetent, like Trump levels of incompetent.

In other news, due to strict shutdowns and virus containment people in Australia actually have the chance to live normal lives again, unlike foolish Americans.

So true, this government couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery.

I am very glad they are keeping the borders closed, introducing covid-19 to a largely unvaccinated population would be disastrous.

The current situation is that all visitors from India will go to the quarantine facility near Darwin.  It was an old mining camp that is a long walk to anywhere else.  If your idea of a vacation is sit around in the hot humid air while doing nothing, it isn't too bad.

But are they "Hiring a private security firm run by the cousin of a union official with close ties to the government to supervise the hotel quarantine" levels of incompetent?

The vaccination rates are very low.  The AstraZeneca vaccine is made locally so the idea was to give that to everybody.  Then the blood clot issue came up and that was limited to over 50 for a while and then under 50 if you asked. They don't have enough Pfizer vaccines since they weren't planning on using them for most people so when they ordered more they were at the back of the waiting list.  While they were waiting for more details about the AZ blood clot issues, many people got their flu shots pushing back the 1st vaccination at least 2 weeks.  They only opened it up to everyone over 50 about two weeks ago as before that it was essential workers in class 1a or 1b.  The AZ 2nd shot is given 12 weeks after the 1st so the number to totally vaccinated is very low.  They are also sending much of the locally made AZ vaccines to other countries that need it worse rather than hoarding it.
