The server where the texts are stored mysteriously malfunctioned, just a few minutes after the records request was filed but a few minutes before the server could be accessed.

"The mayor's office initially asked the city's information technology department for help recovering the texts, according to Thursday's report. When the IT department couldn't recover the texts, the mayor's office obtained a log from the city's telecom company listing who the mayor had texted with and contacted all the city employees in the log "to see if the missing text messages could be recreated," according to Thursday's report."

Survey says no.

Sounds like they made honest efforts to recover the data...refreshing contrast to the standard GOP response in these situations.

Still not convinced.  Any investigation of a government official or body should always be conducted by AT LEAST the next level up for credibility's sake.  Local mayor might have screwed up? State investigates.  State AG might have diddled an intern?  Feds investigate.

Yeah it's still "we investigated ourselves and found no wrongdoing."

Weird how Democrats are supposedly determined to reform police but all these Democratic mayors let their police run rampant on their citizens without doing anything about it. Oh and they mysteriously lost text messages. Obviously some farkery is afoot.

This needs to be investigated by the FBI. Maybe they are telling the truth, but  it doesn't matter what party she is. This is too convenient. Accountability isn't and cannot be a partisan issue.  democrats do not have clean hands when it comes to allowing or covering up Police misconduct and other corruption.

Boss: Hey, this is your boss calling, do you have a copy of those potentially incriminating texts on you? You know the ones, right? The ones that may implicate all of us and might upset a few people on the police force and put your job security and well-being at risk. No bells? I can't seem to find any of mine between May and August.
Subordinate: May and August you say? Weird, I thought that I had meticulous records, but it seems like those texts are MIA. I'll be sure to ask the rest of the group to check if messages from May through August are missing on all their devices as well.

Boss: Hey telecom company, I can't find my texts, can you provide me with meta data? What's that? You only record SMS entries, but don't log data passing through WhatsApp or iMessage? Weird. Must be lost. How unfortunate! But you have a complete list of everyone who texted me between May and August that I can use to contact? I guess that'll do.

/ Someone may have learned a thing or two from Watergate.

Most big city mayors are fairly subservient to their police unions and will almost always bend the knee to them. Happened in my home metro of St. Louis when Lyda Krewson got in hot water by revealing the addresses of protesters. Lends to my theory of why police are out of control - when cops in New York, LA, Chicago, and Seattle can intimidate civic leadership into compliance - cities where liberals control government for the most part, imagine how much worse cops in right wing cities and states behave.

Because it's the law.

The better question is why don't cops arrest and prosecutors prosecute GOP criminals.

But better is not why you're here.

There were two mysteries in Seattle last summer: 1) Just how much did Jenny Durkan approve of the teargassings, and 2) who ordered the abandonment of the East Precinct which led to CHAZ/CHOP.

Durkan has tried to claim that she did not approve of the teargassings, but we saw what happened. And, she also tried to claim that some mystery commander acted independently to abandon the East Precinct (including the removal of all records and computer equipment).

Both Durkan and former Police Chief Best have tried to pass the buck for every one of the missteps last summer and now there are no texts to prove anything.

Additionally, the beginning of this time period is is also when the Democrats teamed up with Amazon to unsuccessfully run Reagan Democrat Egan Orion against socialist Ksama Sawant. But, there was probably no collusion, right?

Its fine. She's an Obama Democrat, so her hands must be clean. Right?

CH is gentrifying sure, but the majority is still with the progressive population rather than the Amazon Drones, small as it may be.

My mom is working on the recall sawant campaign with a bunch of her friends who are longtime residents. The other day she asked me to take a picture for her to use in the campaign and I said I would not help her with that trash endeavor. I understand why she and some other liberal people are frustrated with Sawant, but they need to run someone of value against her rather than pander to conservatives with this garbage.

This neighborhood used to be full of real people with differing jobs, and artists and young people. Now it's endless Amazon drones. R place wasn't my hangout, I used to frequent the Canterbury but after their owner acted like such a douche about "looters" I no longer go anyway. But then, socializing is still dead for the most part. My biggest heartbreak in the changes to Capitol Hill was losing the Bagel Deli. I also highly resent what's become of the University Village.

The one on 15th? I occasionally went there but I do appreciate the Thai restaurant that went in its place.

My biggest pre-COVID heartbreak was in losing the Broadway Grill (the very expensive restaurant in its place is no substitute). Because Rebar isn't technically on the hill, the biggest pandemic loss for me so far might be the Eagle (though nobody has reported on it more than the rumors).

Though, I miss the old cheap Canterbury. That going more upscale was probably the biggest sign that the neighborhood changed.

I'm not talking about Rush Limbaugh here. She was shiatposting Paul Farking Allen, hours after his death was announced. This guy donated 2.6 billion dollars to charity and she takes advantage of the publicity around his death to signal boost herself.

Paul Allen was a mixed bag who donated capriciously, making many charities dependent on him, and ruined the city with his Vulcan company who owned and operated so much shiat that drove up the cost of living. Additionally, he didn't know how to hire the right people, as shown by the disengagement of the Cinerama from local engagement and its unexpected shuttering after he died. Sure, he's not Bill Gates-level terrible, but Paul Allen had a detrimental effect on the city.

Additionally, the petitions for the Sawant recall haven't been counted yet.

And, the way I know you're full of shiat, is that the Seattle Times is in no way liberal.

Oh my god, we get it. You hate the rich and successful. How novel. How edgy.

The tech industry has created tens of thousands of millionaires and millions of comfortable incomes. Not to mention objectively making the lives of billions of people, all over the world, better.

If it hadn't revitalized Seattle, it would be a dirtier, somehow even more depressing version of Aberdeen today.

misanthropicsob: Additionally, the petitions for the Sawant recall haven't been counted yet.

I know they haven't been counted yet. But its a pretty big effort just to get to the point where there is a count. That couldn't have happened in district 3 if everyone thought she was awesome.
