Because cats are cool. Women are cool. Women who like cats are really cool.

I had planned to become a crazy cat lady in my old age.  But then I got the cat from hell. That little rat bastard has cured me of ever wanting another cat.

I am now planning to be a crazy dog lady.  I have two now, and I'll add to the collection once I retire.

Plants are the new pets
Pets are the new kids
Kids are the new exotic pets - you have to be rich or crazy to have them.

I'm fairly new to having a cat and have been frankly surprised at how little is on offer for cat's vs dogs, and how sameish and late 70s uggo most store-bought cat trees are.

It's as simple as Petsmart where literally 60 percent of the store is dog stuff 20 percent is cat stuff and the remainder is everything else.

The dogs have an entire aisle dedicated to nothing but toys both sides, while the cats have one side of an aisle for toys, harnesses/collars, and dishes

I was super grumpy about this when all I had was cats but then I got a dog too and this is a w e s o m e. I can never leave a pet store without picking up a new toy and every toy we give him is his favorite. Dog's are something else :)

It's also practical. I've had many cats that only play with wadded up post it notes, or milk jug rings, no matter the variety of toys at their disposal. I have one cat now that only plays with a certain type if shakey-mouse and ONLY the black ones or the white ones.
What I like about what's happening now is more of a focus on furniture, towers, shelves, walk-ways, etc. I've never had a cat that dislikes the ability to climb all over the place.
