You know, y'all tried the Dumbest Coup, and the fact that NONE of y'all are in newly laid foundations is a testament to our Republic in general, and that you'd rather have something a li'l more Grimdark, and genuinely fear the idea of loss of power and possible early retirement or even light jail sentences when you'd have been just fine with dead Congresscritters and a descent into fascism says a LOT about why this mess failed.

No, they farking aren't.  They are your conversations, performed as a representative of your constituents, in service and duty of the United States, it's people, and the Constitution.  And we the people have a right to hear communications related to the insurrection, especially communications between you and the President regarding requests for action and the official responses to those requests.

McCarthy took to the air in the middle of the insurrection and even in that moment, he couldn't stop gobbling on Donnie's cock.  He sort of blamed the media, and made a half-assed plea to Trump to pull back his terrorists, but he couldn't say anything even remotely negative.

The problem with letting the GOP investigate shiat is that they'd turn it into a political witch hunt just like they did with Benghazi. Anything to turn a legitimate investigation into their shady dealings into a circus is a win for them. Pelosi should have started investigations immediately and not sit here trying to get them to act in good faith.

It's not about any actual investigation of the protests. It's about having a side topic which they can use to interrupt the proceedings/process. They know as well as any of us there's nothing to be there, but they can screw up everything else related to the inquest so long as they have any elbow room to, well, throw an elbow, and to continue the metaphor, there's no ref planning on blowing a whistle.

I've always known there are people that are absolute dirt and that the worst of them go into politics. It's distressing to learn how many of them vote Republican, and for Trump in his reelection bid after all we'd seen. And how many of the Republican pols still today forsake anything resembling a decent reputation for self-serving opportunism.

I don't know why he's so concerned, he already can't recollect or can not recall the events of that day.  He'll just pull a Gonzales like all the other GQPers trying to weasel out.  Or he'll flat out lie to Congress, it's not like Congress has gone after those who lied (Kavanaugh) or ignored/rejected subpoenas before anyway.

50 years ago Jan 6th would have ended the Republican party. Full stop. Several congress critters would be rotting in jail right now. The GOP would no longer exist and their would be a new conservative party rising from the ashes. But we've had the entire right wing and the vast right wing network of media spend the last 4 years casting doubt on all of our institutions, The FBI, CIA, etc to the point where any entity that doesn't fall lockstep in with Trump is "The Deep State". There are millions of conservatives that believe Jan 6th was entirely peaceful, and the only violent people were undercover antifa agents. There is now an entire political party in this country built and sustained entirely by lies and revisionism. Our democracy is literally being held together by a thread right now. The right wing is already legislating a sure victory in 2022, which will in turn legislate a sure victory in 2024. Every election is becoming "the most important election in history" as if the right wing gains even one more election in the near future no opposition will ever come to power again. The only way for the right wing to lose is if the opposition shows up in such massive numbers they cannot be denied, like we did in 2020. And I have little faith that we can get 81+ million people to keep showing up every two years as historically we can't. And I wish everything I was writing right now wasn't true but it is. I feel like this American experiment is just about over.

Did they though?  Yeah, Trump got his ass handed to him.  But Republicans outperformed Dems elsewhere on the ticket.  Let's not pretend 2020 was a blowout.  Trump onlylost because he handled COVID so poorly.  Had he just not actively helped people die, he'd probably still be POTUS.

The GQP have devolved into two camps.

The regular old school party before country assholes and the newer Trump before party before country traitors.

Both depend on a propaganda narrative of lies.

Neither are worth a flying fark but the latter are enabling and encouraging radical rw domestic terrorism.
