I had one of these. It's a little more white trash than the cars in the article though.

I still have 2 of these in my garage. They were rides that I played with as a kid in the late 60s. They were hand me downs from older cousins and siblings.

It's funny looking back now and seeing how expertly lettered some of that stuff really is.

In the early 90s, I was insanely envious of my friend Adam when his parents bought him a Power Wheels car. That thing was basically peak toy in like 1993.

My uncle found one of these in the weeds behind the house he bought. My brother and I have been restoring it off-and-on for the last 15 years.

I'm pretty sure I had one in the early 1970s, probably went to the next cousin.

You saw them a lot 2010-2015, not sure if they were canceled by safety culture.  I'd assume that kids still wanted them, but perhaps the neighborhood dynamics didn't have the right age kids for me to see them.  But it seemed like "eventually these things get mass produced and less expensive", and the rich parents have to find something else for their kids to be seen playing with.

Those things aren't as much fun as they seem. Unlike a bicycle, they're insanely difficult to pedal, so unless you have a decent sized stretch of pavement to ride on they're useless.

This^

my kids each got one from Grandma a few Christmases ago, after about 10 minutes they were fed up and they have sat in the garage unused ever since.

I got them Powerwheels which are super popular in my neighborhood, and they have used to the point of me being tired of them, I want to upgrade them to a real go-kart now.

I had one back in the '60s.  You did NOT want your feet to come off of the pedals if you were moving fast.

That top hat cost more than the car did, I am sure.

They're still costly as hats go, but cheaper than the perruques that British judges and barristers still wear.
