Moderna rates are similar to Pfizer rates because they are very similar. I'm betting the efficacy rates on the variants are similar too. What I'd like to know is how well antibodies from having Covid do against the variants. I've got both my Moderna shots, but I have a sister who thinks she's invincible because she had Covid (didn't bother with the vaccine).

One week for me. Along with my second shot I was given the orange variant of this sticker.

I can put that with the small sheet of 'I voted!' stickers that I took when I, em, voted. A pity those are so small, I really wanted to write underneath 'for Biden, biatches!' but there was no room.

Get my second shot in a week, which is good - they need to update the firmware or something on my microchip, signal keeps cutting out.

Yeah, but why use it at all? "Got my 2nd one today" send to cover it just fine.

Usually, "literally" is used when their might be confusion as to whether you're being literal or figurative or vague. I can't see "i got vaccinated today" being figurative.

"I just got vaccinated" vs "I literally just got vaccinated" cos mean the difference between an hour or even a day ago versus "I'm walking out of the clinic as we speak".

2021-05-06 5:48:40 AM
While I'm at it, why the ellipsis in the headline?  That's usually used when you are trusting in a curve ball or something like "I'll give you a million dollars ... but you have to move to Utah." Getting two shots doesn't seem like much of a hardship.

2021-05-06 6:03:59 AM
Tomorrow will be two weeks since I received my second Pfizer shot.  I think that leaves me a week away from the vaccine providing maximum protection.

/not that I'm planning on doing anything differently than I've done over the past ~15 months

I had Covid in November, then got the Pfizer shots. I'm still wearing a mask indoors, and sometimes outdoors when near people (have a friend with immunocompromised family).

Got my #2 Pfizer yesterday. In two weeks when the full benefit sets in I'll still be masking up but feeling a lot better.

Ugh. I have a brother like that. He swears he'll get vaccinated but always has excuses why he hasn't yet. He thinks there's no rush because he had it already.  Going to a CVS is not  convenient enough for him. Basically I think he's waiting for someone to come to his house and give him the shot like the VA is doing for their homebound patients here. I am strongly recommending he go with the one shot J&J if at all possible because I am not at all convinced he'll keep his second appointment.

There was a thread a while back about some guy thinking one was enough for post-Covid folks, as their reaction to the second was much more severe.

But not sure that's a universally held opinion.

One I saw was a single doc. Glad a study has been done. But will it be accepted as the right thing to do? Plus did they look at the variant issue?

Effing viruses.

Maybe so (variants):

These findings were also reflected in an analysis of antibodies against the D614G mutation and the B.1.351 South African variant of COVID-19. For those who did not have COVID-19, it took a second dose to get a robust enough immunity level against the mutation and variant, whereas those recovered from COVID-19 had a strong enough antibody response after one dose.

Just to clarify, exercise some restraint even after you get the second shot.  It takes a few weeks to kick in.  It's not magic that works immediately, it's biology that takes a few weeks for your body to process and respond to.

That would be good news if it turns out to be the case.

They have stats for:

After one dose
After 14 days after second dose

To control, they should have started collecting data for the one dose group after the interval needed for the second dose group. So 21 days plus 14 days.

Did they do that? If not, the comparison fails.
