Isn't that what all referees/umpires do?

He's got to be fired at this point right?

Hernandez sucks, and I'm all for mocking him for missing what happened, but if you do miss what happened, you can't really do anything else besides what he did. Make a call on the field because there has to be a call on the field and confer with the other umps.

In fairness, not a single player on the field except those two outfielders knew what the hell happened either. That was a weird bounce that you couldn't even for sure say happened from the original camera angle. Slick AF from the RF though.

MLB is severely broken. Unless they correct things like the Astros scandal and Hernandez, it will only get worse.

Aaron Hernandez?

Angel Hernandez is a terrible ump, but this wasn't a terrible call. No one could see what happened. He had to guess. But then they got it right. It is what good umps do. Angel was just lucky there were some around.

This.

Also, there was a reason why the walls and backdrops were almost always solid green, and when they were not, they had a little white and almost no other color. Stuff like this is the reason

"The explicit reason MLB offers -- that according to Torre, Hernandez 'has not demonstrated the leadership ability and situation-management skills in critical high-pressure roles on a consistent basis' -- is presented in clear and specific terms,"

From the decision regarding Hernandez' discrimination lawsuit vs the MLB (which he lost).

They know he's a bad umpire.  They'd fire him but the union would throw a fit

I'm all for bagging on Hernandez, but the exec who decided that a giant video screen inside the outfield wall was a good idea should be fired. In internet pictures, it looks like they were probably installed sometime between 01-06, but the Royals are so bad, it's tough to find home game highlight videos from that era. The screens are definitely there by 2010, and definitely not there in 2000, but the tech for those really didn't come down in price enough until 05-06. Find the person who did this, and if they're still working for the organization, fire them.

They've likely made hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, selling ads there.

They don't give a sh*t if calls get blown because of it, lol

The K got some major renovations between 2006 and opening day 2009.  They dropped something like $250M in Kauffman and Arrowhead to improve the facilities.  The video boards on the outfield walls were installed then, along with a ginormous HD LED screen above the center field batter's eye that replaced the  panel that had been there since the 70s.

On topic, Angel Hernandez sucks, but that was an easy call to fark up because of the video boards making it impossible to follow the ball.  I couldn't tell until I saw the replay what had happened, either.

If he were guessing, you'd expect him to actually get the call right about 50% of the time.

Last night, he was behinf home plate and called a hit batter on a player that was not hit, leading to 3 Royals ejections and a shrunken strike zone the rest of the night.
