He's my favorite. Letterman was better, but Conan is my favorite. He exposed me to and launched the careers of a lot of my favorites as well. He got a raw deal, but I hope he keeps podcasting or writing.

I only ever really watched segments of it, so no big loss there. Late night talk shows are all basically the same shiat anyway.

I do enjoy his random improvisations and ramblings, like on the "without borders" show or his podcast. Could imagine seeing more of that kind of stuff in the future.

Any news on what exactly they pitched to HBO?

ok now give his show to craig ferguson.  I know craig won't want to do it but good lord he was so good.

I only recently became aware of the Octagon Lever.

Haven't watched an incarnation of his show in years, kind of over the late-night format. But his was the one I enjoyed they most cause he's just as farking weird as I am. That said, his podcast is fantastic though and worth a listen.

Conan O'Brien has his humorous moments.
But it isn't a loss.
He's basically a ginger Fallon.
Before you get pissy, I would never compare him to Kimmel.

Craig was the only one that didn't shiat on Britney during her mental breakdown.  Dude got it right, I hold a lot of respect for him because of that.
At the Hoover dam gift shop, I found the same snake mug he used, you'd better believe I bought that.  It's pain to wash, so now it's a flower vase.

Letterman was the best, Conan was a worthy successor, and somehow Leno screwed them both. I always farking despised Leno. Fallon and Cordon are absolutely unbearable. Seth Meyers is the only decent host. Kimmel is OK, listening to Colbert reminds me of being scolded by my 5th grade teachers. To be fair, I'm old so my opinion doesn't count for much.

I read that Fergie is so over Hollywood he's moved back to Scotland.

Nope. Nvm. Craig was always a fun watch the few times I happened upon it.

Ishkur: I miss the Walker lever already.

To be fair, the lever on the Walker was it's one weak point.

The latch holding it up was too close to the pivot point, and on firing the lever could fall down, which would then prevent the cylinder from rotating.  Especially since the Walker was built to shoot heavy loads.

People used to using thongs and strings to keep the lever up in action, and Colt solved the issue in its subsequent cap and ball revolvers by putting the latch for the loading lever at the very end, like in this 1862 Colt Police revolver:

It was a much more secure latch than the simple spring near the pivot in the Walker.

I like Fallon and the reason is that I think he's a pretty genuine guy. He laughs when I would laugh, and he's clearly just having a good time doing what he is doing.

Conan I liked years ago, but after he went to TBS I didn't catch him as often. Still responsible for my favorite late-night interview ever though.

Conan is funny, but he has a mean streak. If he's talking about something he's not fond of or doesn't understand, he goes from self-deprecating to unpleasantly biting.

My favorite Conan episode involved Tom Selleck, the wrestler Big Show, and some weird elderly sex toys lady.  This was Conan at his best.  He was always too nervous and fawning around true A-listers, but with B-, C-, and Z-listers, he would just goof off and be himself.  From best I can remember, I'm pretty sure Big Show was wearing a strap-on on his head before the end of the episode.

I DVR Seth Myers, Colbert, and Conan. I'll binge one or the other. I also have Kimmel but it's more for when I hear about a specific episode he did.
I miss Craig Ferguson. I'd love to stream everything he did. He was genuinely funny.

He said "old," not "ancient."

But in all seriousness, I remember sneaking a Carson episode in when I could as a wee lad.  But I was too young to appreciate him at the time. My formative years were shaped more by Letterman, and then Conan during college.

Same.  I loved Letterman as a kid, but Conan struck just at the right time for me, college.

My freshman year roommate turned me on to him.  I remember him telling me he was a big Conan fan and I just thought, "Really? The awkward big red hair guy?"  Then I watched a few episodes.

I always remember this 1996 profile in Rolling Stone:

Conan O'Brien's Three-Year Overnight Success - Rolling Stone

I still crack up thinking about the Burt Ward costume prank.

And the 10th Anniversary special (which I still have a copy of) is something I'll still go back to when I need a good laugh.

Yea I think they see the value in the Samantha Bee/Full Frontal type format.  Reruns will make them more money on other nights

The mediocre play dirty because if they were good, they wouldn't have to resort to backstabbing to have gotten to that spot.

Yeah, Conan was at his best when he felt free to try stuff and go in weird directions.  That's why I think he was at his peak when he was in the 12:30 slot, he was the B-team, so there was no pressure.  I'm not sure we would have gotten things like Whale Week or James Lipton reading Horny Manatee poetry even on TBS.  There were some A-listers where he eventually developed a rapport with, but a lot of his best interviews were with SNL cast members and other people in comedy.  Folks who would gleefully run with him off on whatever tangent.  Then there were the shows where instead of a musical guest or standup comedian to close the show, they got the very strange person 3rd guest.  Remember the bread expert?  "Making bread is almost like a sexual act."

This is good. I don't have or want cable TV, and even if I did, I'm not sure I would go looking for TBS. Late night talk shows on any network are dying a slow death anyway. Hope he does something different on HBO. Conan is funnier just shooting the shiat with random people on the street than he is doing a monologue written by a team of writers.

I read that Fergie is so over Hollywood he's moved back to Scotland.

He basically retired in Scotland after one last stand up tour.

I still watch clips from his show.  They are still hilarious.  Loved that show.
