And this comes on the heels of BOTH of WA's big universities (WSU and UW) announcing that vaccine is required for any student or staff to return to campus.

Like many folks have been saying for months: If the gov. can't "force" you to get a vaccine, the "free market" has plenty of ways to do it for them.

Nintenfreak: hopefully the non-vaccinated seating is above a pit of rusty nails and lava.

Even better idea: Apply a 20% service charge but only to the people sitting in non-vaccinated (unless they can prove legit medical exemption).

When they complain, tell them that compensates the staff for increased risk exposure, plus risk to the business of potential sudden closure in case of a covid outbreak.

Suites can be filled to 100% if every guest shows proof of vaccination.

And what's the proof? The card template is online, easy to print out, and therefore useless as proof.

Sure, it's not gonna work 100% of the time, but saying there's no way to prove it, still requiring it provides a hurdle to at least SOME people.  Also, my card has my dose lot number.  If there's a system with these, maybe check to see if it lines up with someone's identity.

I always demand my booths be fully vaccinated before I sit at them.  It's good practice for a restaurant anyway; they'll be touching tons of asses and inhaling far too many farts over the course of their lives that getting them immunized early will significantly increase their longevity.

So it looks like several counties in WA are going to roll back to only allowing indoor businesses to operate at a maximum of 25% capacity. Those who refuse to vaccinate are farking things up for everyone, IMHO.

Well given that both of the universities you name are state schools the state government is at least compelling people to get vaccinated

I'm guessing that those in the unvaccinated don't actually tip their servers with money, but instead leave them a card with what they consider to be deeply profound musings about life, liberty, freedom and jesus.

I bet in certain parts of the country there would be considerable overlap in the Venn diagram of people who would complain about this sort of policy and people who think going back to segregation would be a good idea.

Imagine being the server stuck working the non-vaccinated section. You have to know your manager doesn't give a fark about you. Sure catching a deadly disease and spreading it to your family would suck, but it should go without saying that non-vaccinated scum are shiatty tippers.

An example of that "one guy" who has to screw things up for everyone else.  Why we have to have all these laws and regulations because they are incapable of following basic rules.

Just because you CAN do something dumb doesn't mean you should.

This will be enforcement on the honor system. People who will suffer are the servers asked to lie for their bosses. Or servers lying to their bosses so they can get their tips back or stick it to us libs.

Great idea, not executable in this current reality.

If these sections had slightly negative air pressure and vented outside it'd be ok.

Good reasoning, but the surcharge should be much, much larger.

They'd still need to walk through the restaurant to get there, use the restrooms, and staff would still need to interact with them. Negative air pressure barely worked for smoking sections, and most people weren't smoking nonstop.

I suppose they could eat in a sectioned off area with its own entrance, served by drones, a conveyor system, or some poor bastard in a hazmat suit. Just make sure to charge up front and add a decent surcharge, because you already know plaguerats don't give a shiat about anyone other than themselves and would tip terribly. Might work as a gimmick to fleece assholes, but doesn't really seem worth the expense.

WA resident here. It is a factor for sure. But also some bad timing. Had Inslee waited 2-3 weeks to roll fwd to phase 3, he'd have been 2-3 weeks into the phase of the vaccine rollout that opened things up to the vast majority of everyone under age 50. The rush to get shots was insane here when that finally opened, so that time period would have likely avoided the case uptick we're seeing now.

If I were a restaurant owner, that'd be my response for sure.

Honestly? Restaurants should advertise they're only seating/serving vax'd people, or setting up certain blocks of dining hours for vax'd people only. Must show vax card at the door or proof of medical exemption. I can almost guarantee the number of willing diners would far outnumber the pissed off magats boycotting you.

It is a pretty sketchy little card.

I lost mine (and the phone it was in, and the picture of it that was in the phone) and got a new card on my booster shot with no issues.
Granted I was going in to get a second shot but it was far easier than I thought.
I guessed they'd look me up on the computer and verify some stuff but nope, here is your new card and your last shot.

You don't actually give a shiat about any of that. It's just an excuse to be contrary. If it wasn't this, it would be something else and I'm sure we'll read all about it in the coming weeks/months.

Well, and locks only keep out honest people. And lazy opportunists, if someone really wants to get in to something, they'll find a way to break in.

So yeah, you could fake a vaccine card if you wanted to, but it would provide a deterrent to most plague rats. They would just huff and puff in an impotent fit of rage and storm out.

And I really don't see why so many of these freedom loving, self reliant, red blooded free market capitalists have a problem with a business deciding to require masks or social distancing in the first place. It's their business, they can decide who comes into their store. As long as they aren't discriminating (and I'm sure some of those folks have a problem with federal anti-discrimination laws) they can do as they please.

If you don't like a businesses policies, don't do business with them. Your freedom allows you to do business with whomever you choose.

Independent businesses should be forced by government to serve idiots who are a public health nuisance and pose a risk to that business's employees and other customers??

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, that's a good one.  That's the kind of joke a complete and utter moron would make.

"Vaccine hesitancy" is about an inch deep. Heard an interview yesterday with a woman who was supposedly scared to be vaccinated but did it because she wanted to attend major league baseball games this summer.

It is simply unserious. With these selfish idiots, the second vaccination sits between them and a thing they want to do they'll get the jab. So I'm all for places or businesses or flights/ships or employers requiring it to sweep up these fools. They can get the shot & biatch about the hegemony of the system from the safety of acquired immunity.

Nobody has to serve you, and you don't have to eat there.

Good luck arguing restaurants can require a shirt and shoes for health & safety but not this.  I'd seriously respect a restaurant that put up a "Indoor dining for vaccinated persons only; all others may sit outside" sign.

Stops being confidential when your medical condition is a risk to the health and safety of other people, but thanks for playing.

From the rural areas of Illinois (where I deliver).

Plague rats are plague rats.   The moment that indoor dining was allowed, the bars were packed to capacity.   It's sad.

Restaurants that had reasonable measures in place were ghost towns, being boycotted by the MAGAT crowds.  They had to drop the majority of their measures just to survive.   I feel terrible for them.

And yes, after delivering to a crowded bar once, I had an anxiety attack and shut down.   I could not handle that many people in that close proximity.  Under normal circumstances, I have no issues with crowds, but our situation is not farking normal.

Vaccines didn't even have a chance to get to the majority of these people until the past couple of weeks, but this was well before this.  I didn't even have my first shot yet (fully vaccinated now, along with Mrs. D and eldest spawn).

So, I see the vaccinated/non-vaccinated sections or restrictions working well in cities.   In the rural areas of the country, I don't see it working at all.  The division between the two thought processes is very wide.  It really is something akin to different cultures.

I hope this makes sense.

Why the exemption? If you're immunocompromised, you shouldn't be in a public restaurant anyway, and you're still presenting the same risk.

Disney could probably add another 10% to the US Total Immunized by simple mandating proof of vaccination to visit the parks.
