No, the oxygen ran out the second the submarine imploded.

Sounds bad that they are running out of air. But a lot of subs like it when you leave them out of air for a bit and then let go.

Actually it is Thermal Layers, as in Sonar and Thermal Layers.   It's the traditional term for submarine slealth and detection phenomenon.

Indonesian Navy spokesman First Adm. Julius Widjojono said the submarine has the capability to dive up to 500 meters (approximately 1,640 feet) below sea level, but authorities estimate it went 100 meters to 200 meters deeper than that.

yea...if they're not floating there waving at you at this point you are never going to see them again.  that situation is less "trapped in cave running out of air" and more "engine out heading for mountainside".

Plot twist: the object the Indonesian Navy found is flight 370.

Considering how many planes & ships were sunk in the Pacific areas during WW2, could be
an old ship too.

No, the oxygen ran out the second the submarine imploded.

The article says it's in space of 50-100 meters. That's well above it's crush depth. If it suffered a casualty that flooded some compartments, others could be intact.

Yeah, some inconsistencies there, the article also says...

If it imploded, wouldn't it be at the bottom of the sea, which is 700m rather than where it was detected now?

Something obviously happened, that includes not being able to communicate.

But if it's at that debt, the hull must be intact

It seems the submarine has the capabiility to dive much deeper than that, it only has the capability to surface from 500 meters.

MurphyMurphy: Those men are already dead.

I said that about the cursed, and it turns out they were still some man alive in the Stern who could've been saved with a more vigorous rescue effort.

If this object is indeed the submarine it's only down at less than half the test depth of the boat. There may well be intact compartments with survivors. I wouldn't call it likely, but until we know for sure this is not the time to let up.

Unless of course you're Putin. But fark that bastard with a rusty chainsaw.

100 meters is enough to use the escape hatches. The fact they haven't done so with oxygen running out, or even launched a radio bouy says about all there is to it. Also, the sub has almost certainly been demagnetized to avoid detection and mines, meaning it's unlikely any magnetic sources are them. The  South China  Sea has a lot of underwater listening stations and no one has reported hearing a crush or explosion is about the only good news, but the likelihood of anyone making that public is slim.
