From TFA

After the incident took place, RCMP say they noticed an illegal still for brewing alcohol in the backyard, which will now be dismantled.
Police say no charges are being considered.

A moment of silence for these farkers.

Parents used to live on 65 acres, I think the coolest thing ever was when we filled an old chest deep freezer with 3 lbs of tannerite. The lid ended up stuck in some tree tops.

I grew up burning things in the backyard and throwing various flammable liquids on the fire, including straight from a plastic gas can.  Even as a stupid kid I still wasn't dumb enough to do it with gunpowder.

/I only set the yard on fire a couple times.
//Don't pour anything flammable straight from the container onto the fire.

Police learned that a group of men were around a fire and had an idea to pour gunpowder onto the open flame to see what the reaction would be.

When my cousin and I were kids, we used to toss unopened cans of soda into bon fires thinking it was funny.

But unlike the morans in TFA, we KNEW what would happen. We were morans in a whole other way.

/moran!

When I was in my early 20s, we used to have ATF parties. That's the sort of thing you do in southern Indiana. Often times, the difference between the rednecks and the preppy folks was a couple 4 wheelers. You decide which are the rednecks.

We never got hurt, but I do remember a time when my glasses got chipped by bird shot (after a ricochet from a foot long sawn off shotgun).

These days, I fire a cannon into the woods.  ...no, I really do, but I no longer do it while drinking.

I went to a Guy Fawkes party where there was a bowl of little twist tie baggies of gunpowder to throw at the bonfire.

That was fun.

This is exactly true for my time in Powder Springs, GA back in the late 80s and (very) early 90's.

I wasn't either but got along with the red-necks a little better than those red-necky-preppies.

But I've spent many of my partying nights, deep in the woods, drinking an assortment of whiskey (Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, Wild Turkey), with guys who rolled their own smoke (of all varieties) and fired guns at things and into the air.

There's a song by Alan Jackson called Chattahoochee that accurately describes some of these nights. (I've literally seen a pyramid of Budweiser cans stacked on the river's side at night...)

But we managed not to dump gunpowder on a fire because that would have caught the forest on fire and we knew it.

Kinda like how my cool uncle Jeb used to tell us "Remember, kids, gun powder is fun powder!" Then he'd give us fireworks and retreat to his bunker with his burn salve.

Police learned that a group of men were around a fire and had an idea to pour gunpowder onto the open flame to see what the reaction would be.

The fire ran up the pouring gunpowder into the metal container in which it was being held, then exploded.

Just like in a cartoon.

WTF did they think was going to happen?  This couldn't have been their first gunpowder purchase
