Yup. We need Herc in the MCU. Especially for the epic God-Bros Buddy Movie that will result.

My prediction Gor will kill Zeus, then eventually Thor. Then portman will pick up the hammer and avenger her fallen love.

Hemmsworth needs an out.

Pretty much why I think they'll go with a relatively unknown or B-lister for Hercules casting - an actor they can elevate with the role and not break bank on for half a dozen movies.

They seem to have already gone the comics' route in the general sense, of Thor finishing his long character arc of growing up and becoming a Good King trope, which ironically means basically farking off and never being seen around because that's basically what Odin's role was in the original mythology.

He's even leaving a woman in charge of everything because he doesn't really give a shiat, just like Odin in the original mythology!  Very exciting for Eddas originalists.

So anyway, they don't really need to write him out further, he's already basically out of the story.  They're free to put Portman in however they're feeling it (most likely they'll go the cheap multiverse cop-out way, because Disney, though personally I would vote for just having her be Thor at the beginning with like one throwaway line of explanation at most and then doing an actual movie instead of another shiatty origin story).

// And his character arc which should have been pretty sensible and comprehensible was rendered into complete gibberish by multiple writers constantly retconning shiat, sometimes to the point of a hack writer straight-up resetting him to a point that an actual good writer had already developed him long past, which is very exciting for the comics originalists since it's how Marvel Comics works.

I know you don't always contradict your own arguments in your posts, but by Gum you've dropped a doozy here.

We're moving into Thor's second arc, now: not the question of who Thor 'should' be, but the discovery of who he is. This puts his worthiness into question--not as a king, but as a god/man/pirate/angel.

I think the next three Thor films should be quite a hoot.

Wait, when and WHY was Hela recast to Melissa McCarthy when Cate Blanchett was farking incredible?

My guess is that was a typo and McCarthy is playing Hera from Greek mythology and not Hela from Norse mythology.

He hadn't yet been featured in any of the three previous Thor movies, and some might say his entrance in the MCU is a bit overdue.

Odin wasn't in the MCU or previous Thor movies? I'm pretty sure Odin was in multiple of those. Did I imagine the whole thing?

Cameo in the movie, which will have a play making fun of the previous movie.

The IMDB listing had Melissa McCarthy as "Actor Hela" , in the same way that Sam O'Neill was "Actor Odin" in Ragnarok.

Fine, I'll watch it, but I refuse to appreciate her in that scene.

Maybe she'll play Hela as an older insecure housewife.  That would be a novel stretch...

Remember that play in Ragnarok where Matt Damon was playing Loki?
Same concept.

Now I want Keanu Reeves in Thor 5 as "Actor Starlord".  Just because.

And Big E as "Actor Drax".

The gift!

God I want to see Hercules in all his 80s glory. I went on a spree and read every appearance until like the Totally Awesome Hulk era. Herc is a lot of fun.

I really liked the idea they tried with him when he was de-powered and was using a whole bunch of magical artifacts. Unfortunately, life got in the way of regular collecting then and only picked up the first few issues of that.
