Asked about the optics of the men's world championships still being scheduled to take place this spring in Latvia, Renney said: "We're very sensitive to what this might look like. But we're also more sensitive to public health, this opponent that we can't see, the ebb and flow of what this looks like worldwide from a health perspective is at the forefront of all of our minds."

Europe is not doing great either, this is about Canada closing up shop.

Nova Scotia has been in mega-hard lockdown for over a year.  They have had like 20 or 30 TOTAL cases.  If ever there was a definition for a place NOT covid-plagued, it'd be them.

They don't want all of that work to go to waste and bring in outsiders.

/I won't share my opinion about all of this, but those are the facts.

And they are correct.
NS is one of the very few jurisdictions in North America, along with the rest of Atlantic Canada, to successfully suppress the spread of Covid-19. They have done so by being utterly ruthless about lockdowns with the result that total cases are just under 1800, with approx. 150 active, of which 44 were reported yesterday.
The Gov't has listened to science, not Facebook; has consistently been open with new information, has been aggressive in getting people tested ( call, they send a taxi to pick you up and return you, N.C.), has all parties in the Legislature on side, and have taken advantage of every support the Feds have made available.
I live in AB, don't get me started on the dingbats running things here.
My son is getting married there in June, I will not be able to go, which sucks, but I understand.
