About 20 seconds, if they're anything like every other kid ever.

The last time I paid $73 for a young girl at an arcade, the judge said I couldn't go to the arcade anymore.

Reason number 482 why I am not a firefighter.

Arcade owners have bills to pay.

Many years ago a friend and I thought it would be hilarious to put his small daughter in a newspaper box while we were waiting for his wife to join us outside.

Everything was fine until we realized that none of us had any change to get her back out.

Even fewer seconds with the tool that he and Bosnian Bill made.

Why call the firefighters? Can't the manager unlock the door? They must refill it from to time.

Nice.  Not an effective tool in this situation but I feel you know that and just went for the glorious funny.
/I still have yet to get that tool.  I tried buying some things from Sparrows and it kept getting denied.
Finally realized it was my credit union denying the sale, even though they didn't have a problem with me buying a bunch of stuff from Multipick on the other side of the world in Germany.
/I guess my CU was looking out for me in some weird way only kind-of and not really?

Those machines are often leased and filled by the company. The arcade staff don't have access to open them or empty the change. Same as most soda machines and those $0.25 junk machines at the grocery store.

Those things are such a scam. You end up paying $73 for a girl that's worth no more than $20.

I don't understand why they don't just use the claw instead of calling the authorities.

You're right that I was just going for the in-joke, but I can't take credit for real knowledge beyond the fact that I was pretty sure that if I did the digging the lock types weren't going to match up.
I've been tempted several times to see if picking would be a good zen/puzzle-piecing/etc practice for me, but LPL shop is always sold out, and I have shied away from taking a chance on several generations later of banggood sets...
But if you happened to know of a reliably available fair quality starter set, I wouldn't object to hearing about it...

I believe the issue was the child was wedged between in the metal flap and the wall of the drop chute. Not simply that they were locked inside.

I've always had a knack for getting (mostly surreptitiously) into locked things ever since I was little so I didn't cheap out when I eventually decided to spend a good amount of time on locksport.
I spent a couple hundred on a 37-pc set of 0.025" picks.  I then spent another couple hundred on a 23pc set of 0.015" picks for thinner or more paracentric keyways.
Ultimately I spent a lot of money on picks of which a lot of will never see any use, so don't do what I did.

If I had to start over for standard pin and tumbler locks I would get:
1 short hook.
1 medium hook.
1 deep hook.
1 deforest half-diamond.
plus
1 city rake.
1 bogota rake.
1 worm rake.
plus
a couple varying thickness each of top and bottom of the keyway tensioners.
(I'm probably forgetting something because I've got my little drinkypoo on)

I know of banggood but I have zero experience with them.  Reputable brands that I know that sell quality individual picks/pieces as well as beginner/intermediate/full sets are Multipick, Sparrows, & Peterson.

/Naturally be sure you're aware of the laws regarding ownership of lockpick tools in your area.  Some states are really dumb about it.
